Lecturer in Accounting

Salary Lecturer Grade F: £35,608 to £46,049 per annum Lecturer Grade G: £47,389 to £56,535 per annum Closing Date 02 October 2025 The Role We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic Lecturer in Accounting (Teaching and Scholarship) to contribute to delivery and development of our undergraduate and postgraduate accounting programmes. We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas: financial accounting and reporting; audit and assurance; management accounting; corporate governance; non‑financial reporting (ESG/sustainability reporting); financial management; and business case studies. Applicants should either hold a professional accounting qualification (e.g. ICAEW ACCA) or a PhD in a relevant accounting discipline (or be nearing completion). Applicants must demonstrate a clear commitment to developing their profile in teaching and pedagogic scholarship. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with a proven ability to deliver high‑quality teaching in accounting and to contribute to the advancement of pedagogic practice in the discipline. You will contribute to the development and delivery of programmes in the Accounting and Financial Management Subject Group in Newcastle University Business School ensuring an outstanding teaching experience for our students. Teaching & Learning To provide high quality teaching and learning and student support Mentor and support students throughout their studies in the role of personal tutor Set and mark assessment of modules in accordance with University standards and utilise online and digitised curricula and education frameworks Contribute to curriculum development Ensure all our students benefit from studying in a research‑intensive, research‑excellent academic environment Provide education for life that engages challenges and supports our students to discover and fulfil their potential both while they are studying with us and once they have graduated Scholarship Contribute to the scholarly and practice profile of the Business School by engaging in scholarly research and activities, engagement practice, CPD and external funding Demonstrate impact by developing practice‑based solutions to real‑world problems, producing scholarly outputs and engaging with external stakeholders to develop the impact of your work Other Contribute to the Business School Vision, Mission and Strategy Operate as an active citizen in the Business School community Have an awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion, ethics, responsibility and sustainability Support the Business School’s global activities and development Undertake a range of administrative tasks to support your area of teaching and/or scholarship and/or engagement for example recruitment or team leadership Take responsibility for a defined management or administrative role such as Module Leader, Year Tutor, Degree Programme Director, Outreach Co‑ordinator Contribute to the Business School’s international programme and professional body accreditations Contribute to the wider work of the School, Faculty and University through input to project teams, working groups and committees The Person The level of appointment will be determined by your ability to meet the requirements of the person specification as outlined below. Knowledge Skills & Experience Lecturer Grade F Evidence of or the potential to provide an outstanding educational experience rooted in strong disciplinary knowledge that engages challenges and inspires our students Evidence of delivering research‑led teaching making effective use of technology to enhance learning in one or more of the following areas: financial accounting and reporting; audit and assurance; management accounting; corporate governance; non‑financial reporting (ESG/sustainability reporting); financial management; and business case studies Evidence or potential for internationalising the curricula Ability to engage with external stakeholders generating real‑world impact from research Commitment to interdisciplinary working Evidence of or potential for effective use of disciplinary and proactive scholarship Evidence of or potential for a developing scholarly and practice national profile Evidence of or potential to develop and secure external funding for scholarly and practice activities Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent organisational, time‑management and presentation skills Demonstration of successful team working Personal resilience in a context of change and a fast‑paced environment Ability to contribute to the Business School Vision and Strategy Awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion and to ethics, responsibility and sustainability Experience of working in or with business, the third sector and/or policy (Desirable) Lecturer Grade G In addition to providing evidence of your previous experience of the criteria above to be considered for a Grade G Lectureship you must also meet the following criteria: Substantial experience of designing and delivering high‑quality teaching and learning material, resources and activities for students in academia or professional accounting education A track record of engaging with external stakeholders generating real‑world impact from research Evidence of your contribution to the Accounting and Financial Management Subject Group or discipline Ability to undertake a management and leadership role Evidence of active academic citizenship Qualifications Lecturer Grade F A good Honours degree (or equivalent) PhD (or equivalent) at or near completion (strictly within three months of submission at time of application) in a relevant subject; or Professional accounting qualification e.g. ICAEW ACCA HE teaching qualification (or equivalent experience) (Desirable) Lecturer Grade G A good Honours degree (or equivalent) HE teaching qualification (or equivalent experience) Completed PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject; or Professional accounting qualification e.g. ICAEW ACCA Diversity and Inclusion Newcastle University is a global University where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
