NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY OF ENGINEERING SCHOOL OF CHEMICAL AND MINERAL ENGINEERING POSITION NUMBER: P & P VACANCY: LECTURER, SENIOR LECTURER, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR PEROMNES GRADE: A8; A7; A6 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT Duties & Responsibilities PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The incumbent should be available to play a leading role lecturing within the School of Chemical and Minerals Engineering as well as research conducted under the Centre for Excellence in Carbon-based fuels. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching/Learning: Lecture typical chemical engineering modules, assist with the project and design modules of 4th year students. Ensure the commercial implementation of research results with subsequent involvement in community projects. Research: Research on alternative energy to ensure continuation of the research currently being conducted. Management: Involvement in the management of the School. Desired Experience & Qualification An appropriate BEng/BScEng degree that allows for registration as Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA, in terms of the Washington Accord. In addition to the above: A Master's degree in Chemical Engineering (NQF level 9). A minimum of 2 years’ lecturing and research experience. In addition to the above: Either a PhD in Engineering (NQF level 10) OR a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering (NQF level 9) combined with professional registration as an engineer. An appropriate research portfolio. A minimum of 5 years’ lecturing and research experience. Associate Professor: In addition to the above: A PhD in Engineering (NQF level 10). A research portfolio that will qualify for NRF-rating within the next three years. A minimum of 7 years’ lecturing and research experience. KEY FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES: Competent in Chemical Engineering subjects for teaching/learning purposes. Competent in Chemical Engineering computer packages such as ASPEN, Python, CFD Packages, etc. Competent in Chemical Engineering research in either Chemical or Minerals Engineering. Competent in the supervision of postgraduate students. KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: Must be able to work in an interdisciplinary field and a diverse environment. REMUNERATION: The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
