Kani (Pty) Ltd is a Level 1 BBBEE mechatronics and engineering company specializing in the design, fabrication, and commissioning of custom industrial equipment for the rail, automotive, and manufacturing sectors. Our portfolio includes jigs, fixtures, automation systems, spray booths, and heavy-duty handling equipment designed and built to meet demanding industrial standards. We are seeking a Mechanical Designer who is practical, innovative, and detail-oriented —someone who can take full ownership of a project from concept through design, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning. The ideal candidate will be confident working independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver turnkey mechanical and automation solutions. You will produce 3D models, detailed fabrication drawings, and technical documentation primarily using Autodesk Fusion, ensuring that every stage of the design-to-delivery process meets performance, safety, and quality expectations. Key Responsibilities Lead and execute end-to-end mechanical design projects — from initial concept and design to procurement coordination, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. Develop 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings using Autodesk Fusion and AutoCAD. Prepare comprehensive manufacturing documentation, including BOMs, exploded views, and assembly layouts. Support prototype development, design validation, and production readiness. Perform mechanical calculations (load, fit, and tolerance analysis). Ensure all designs comply with safety, manufacturability, and quality standards. Participate in client design reviews, technical meetings, and progress reporting. Maintain and enforce drawing standards, naming conventions, and revision control. Provide hands‑on design and technical support during fabrication, site installation, and commissioning. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's Degree (BEng / BTech / National Diploma) in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering. Minimum 3 years' experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing, fabrication, or automation environment. Demonstrated ability to run complete projects independently, including supplier engagement and on‑site coordination. Proficient in Autodesk Fusion and AutoCAD (Inventor or SolidWorks experience advantageous). Solid understanding of fabrication, machining, and welding processes. Knowledge of ISO drawing standards, GD&T, and basic project documentation practices. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Own reliable transport and valid driver's license. Must be based in or willing to travel between Fourways and Wadeville. Preferred Attributes Experience with mechanical systems, jigs, fixtures, lifting devices, or automation equipment. Exposure to ERP systems (e.g., Odoo) and document management workflows. High initiative, accountability, and attention to detail.
