Senior Accountant Our client is seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Accountant. Requirements Matric with Accounting at a Higher Grade BCom degree or equivalent degree with Accounting III and taxation Completed SAIPA or SAICA articles More than six years of experience in accounting Proficiency in computer packages: Pastel, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Windows), CaseWare, Xero Responsibilities Processing of accounting records onto a computerized accounting system resulting in an accurate and complete set of books. Completing annual financial statements of close corporations (CCs), trusts, sole proprietors, and body corporates and preparing working paper files. Calculation of taxation owed by businesses and individuals. Completion of statutory returns (e.g., PAYE, UIF, SDL, VAT). Liaising with clients directly. Supervise and train junior and intermediate accountants. Supervise initiation of processing of client information receipts, sales invoices, and purchase invoices. Perform bank reconciliations and reconciling of petty cash and cash control accounts. Maintain fixed asset register. Post general journals (e.g., depreciation, provisions, interest, salaries, stock). Process journal entries (e.g., new installment sale agreements, interest on borrowings, provisions, accruals of income and expenses, bad debts). Distinguish between finance and operating leases. Handle foreign exchange transactions. Reconcile debtors and creditors statements. Apply correct accounting treatment on disposal of assets (property, plant, and equipment) and investments and calculate taxation on capital gains/losses. Analyze trial balance for mistakes/deviations and discuss results with clients. Perform analytical review of AFS – GP%, inventory days, creditors days, debtors days. Record books from insufficient records. Produce draft financial statements per generally accepted accounting practice and prepare working paper files. Prepare notes for financial statements. Formulate accounting policies. Identify provisions and contingent liabilities. Calculate tax liability and taxation on lump sum payments by retirement. Engage in tax planning (e.g., fringe benefits and allowances). Address tax avoidance / non‑resident tax issues and secondary tax on companies. Perform vouching tests during audit to verify completeness, existence, accuracy, valuation, ownership, and presentation. Calculate PAYE, UIF, SDL levies and VAT. Reconcile input/output VAT to annual financial statements and monthly trial balances. Compile and discuss monthly management accounts with clients. Complete tax returns for individuals, close corporations, trusts, and body corporates. Record and identify shortcomings in internal controls and assess risks with materiality. Conduct statutory checks (member's certificates, founding statements, association agreements, etc.). Perform pre‑engagement procedures and acquisition of member's interest/shareholding. Review monthly files of junior to intermediate accountants. Complete and review management representation letters and qualify the report of an Accounting Officer. Other Duties Understand concept and characteristics of close corporations / private companies / sole proprietors / trusts / clubs / sectional titles. Know advantages and disadvantages of the above entities. Handle loans to members of the above entities. Appreciate powers of members to bind the entity. Comprehend personal liability of members to CC/company and others. Maintain accounting records. Know duties and rights of an accounting officer. Provide assistance to junior and intermediate accountants. Execute any other duty/work/client beyond routine activities in complex nature. Develop training for junior and intermediate accountants. Perform basic administrative duties as needed daily. Review working papers of junior to intermediate accountants. Audit and perform independent reviews of Body Corporates. Software and Systems Set up accounting systems for clients. Determine suitable hardware and software. Train client staff in using software (Pastel). Compliance Adhere to the firm's System of Quality Management (SOQM) policies and procedures. Follow the firm's Employee Code of Conduct, HR policies, and professional codes (SAICA, IRBA, IESBA).
