This role is ideal for someone with a strong geospatial foundation who wants to grow their technical capability, especially in coding, automation and remote sensing. You will work closely with IAS’ Lead Geospatial Analyst and contribute to analytical pipelines across the renewable energy, research, survey, inspection and agriculture sectors. Key Responsibilities Data Processing & Quality Control Process aerial photogrammetry and LiDAR datasets, including point clouds, DEMs, DSMs and orthophotos. Conduct data QC/QA, metadata checks and structured archiving. Support flight planning and field-capture standards where required. Spatial & Remote Sensing Analysis Perform standard GIS and remote sensing tasks (clipping, projections, terrain analysis, zonal statistics, band extraction). Support the design and optimisation of analytical workflows, including classification, object detection, automation and the integration of machine learning techniques to improve efficiency and derive deeper insights from large geospatial datasets. Conduct basic thermal imagery analysis, or develop the capability to do so, for renewable energy, built environment and utilities projects. GIS & Mapping Build, manage and maintain geospatial datasets across various formats and coordinate systems. Produce clear, technically sound spatial visualisations and map outputs for internal analysis and client reporting. Digitise features, prepare analytical layers and support the creation of thematic and project-specific geospatial products. Data Automation & Coding Contribute to scripting and automation of geospatial workflows using programming tools such as Python. Assist in developing internal tools and processes that improve consistency, efficiency and analytical capability. Apply programming skills to support data cleaning, processing, feature extraction and workflow optimisation. Project Support Collaborate with the data team, flight operations and sales throughout the lifecycle of a project. Support field teams occasionally during data capture missions. Work across a range of sectors and project types. A relevant tertiary qualification in Geomatics, GIS, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, or equivalent. Understanding of coordinate systems, map projections and spatial data principles. Practical experience with GIS software (QGIS and/or ArcGIS Pro). Proficiency in Python and/or R, with a strong interest in further development. Strong analytical ability, attention to detail and willingness to learn. Ability to work methodically within a team environment. Occasional travel for field support. Advantageous Experience Exposure to LiDAR, photogrammetry or multispectral datasets. Experience with drone-collected data. Familiarity with machine learning or geospatial automation. SAGC registration (or intent to pursue it). What We Offer Opportunities to work across multiple sectors including renewable energy, research, agriculture, survey and infrastructure inspection. Chance to collaborate and work directly with leading research institutions in South Africa and abroad. Technical growth and mentorship, including exposure to LiDAR processing, advanced photogrammetry, data automation and applied machine learning.
