Position Summary Organisation / Company: UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG Research field: Juridical sciences Profile: Recognised Researcher (R2) First Stage Researcher (R1) Country: South Africa Application Deadline: 2 Nov 00 (UTC) Type of Contract: Permanent Job Status: Full-time EU Funding: No Research Infrastructure Staff: No Advert reference: uj_ Advert status: Online Apply by: 2 November Responsibilities Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Mercantile Law (Corporate Law or Insolvency Law) Supervise postgraduate students in dissertations and theses Conduct and publish research in local, international, accredited journals, book chapters, books, and monographs in Mercantile Law Take on administrative and committee roles within the Faculty of Law and Department of Mercantile Law, and the broader University of Johannesburg, when called upon Mentor emerging staff in the Faculty of Law and the Department of Mercantile Law Attract and sustain fundraising initiatives and strategies to advance teaching and research scholarship Participate in community engagement initiatives to advance societal engagement and impact Qualifications Doctoral degree in Mercantile Law (Corporate Law and Insolvency Law) At least 5 years lecturing experience in the discipline of Mercantile Law Strong publication track record in reputable and accredited journals, book chapters, and books Strong commitment to research‑led teaching, research and innovation Sound communication skills in English Evidence and experience in postgraduate supervision, including at doctoral level and having supervised postgraduate students to completion Competencies and Behavioural Attributes Excellent written and verbal English communication skills Excellent teaching skills and good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues Good planning and organizational skills Experience in the integration of ICT in teaching and learning, and electronic assessment techniques, e.g., Blackboard and Moodle Capacity to administer large undergraduate modules Ability to work well and collegially with others and within established processes Punctuality Knowledge of various subfields of Mercantile Law Innovative, proactive, and creative Ability to work in a pressurised environment and independently (and where necessary in a team) Great writing and presentation skills High level of integrity and ethical foundation Recommendations Ability to teach large groups of students Experience lecturing undergraduates Experience in curriculum development and curriculum transformation Familiarity with blended learning techniques Experience in compiling and developing study guides Experience in media engagement and writing opinion pieces on matters relevant to discipline Knowledge of University policies, rules, and regulations EEO Statement Candidates from designated groups (Black South Africans and Women) are especially encouraged to apply.
