Diesel Equipment Mechanic

JVZ Construction is seeking a skilled and dependable Construction Equipment Mechanic/Technician to maintain and repair our fleet of construction equipment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing inspections, preventive maintenance, and necessary repairs to ensure all equipment remains in optimal working condition. Key Responsibilities Equipment Inspections & Start-Up: Conduct pre-start inspections before equipment operation. Ensure all equipment is safely shut down at the end of each shift. Maintenance & Repairs: Perform routine and preventive maintenance to maximize equipment lifespan. Diagnose issues by conducting inspections and tests, identifying worn or damaged parts. Repair and replace components such as power and drive trains, electrical systems, air conditioning, fuel, brakes, steering, and hydraulics. Make necessary mechanical adjustments and alignments, including gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, and control linkages. Scheduled Services & Performance Checks: Perform manufacturer-prescribed services at designated intervals. Conduct test drives to verify repairs and adjust controls. Manage service and parts costs efficiently, utilizing warranties when applicable. Equipment Monitoring & Record-Keeping: Track machine hours and ensure service kits are ordered in advance. Maintain detailed records of maintenance, repairs, and issued consumables. Complete job cards and report at weekly plant meetings. Breakdown Management & Emergency Repairs: Respond to equipment breakdowns with urgency and minimize downtime. Consult with the site agent to schedule necessary services or repairs. Safety & Compliance: Ensure all equipment is kept in roadworthy condition and license discs are valid. Maintain cleanliness and safety of machinery, preventing leaks and hazards. Adhere to safety, environmental, and employment regulations, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Additional Duties: Report plant abuse or damage to management and take necessary action. Perform welding, gas cutting, and operate power tools as needed. Assist with any site-related tasks to support operational requirements. Stay updated with industry standards and technical advancements. Requirements Skills & Qualifications: Proficiency in mechanical inspections and repairs. Strong technical understanding of construction equipment. Ability to diagnose mechanical issues using inspection tools. Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills. Good verbal communication and documentation abilities. Experience with inventory control and supply management. Dependability and ability to work under pressure. Experience & Certifications: Relevant mechanical/technical certification preferred. Previous experience in construction equipment maintenance is a plus. Welding and fabrication skills are advantageous.
