Engineering Technician - URGENT PLACEMENT

Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape

The purpose of this position is to provide specialized engineering and hydraulic backup service to material handling equipment, systems, and products on company premises or at customer sites in a timely and cost-effective manner so that customer and company requirements are met.

Key Performance Areas:

To perform this job successfully, the appointed individual must be able to perform each essential duty/key performance area satisfactory. This list of key performance areas is not exhaustive and may be changed/supplemented to accommodate business needs from time to time:

- Provide complete customer satisfaction politely and professionally.

- Ensure proper communication between self, workshop staff (Supervisor and Controller), and customer.

- Ensure OHSACT requirements are met in all actions on company and client's premises; maintains a safe work environment by verify vehicle safety device operation, following standards and procedures and in general complying with legal regulations.

- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.

- Perform high-quality workmanship on material handling components as well as manufacturing of new parts.

- Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, welders, etc., in a safe, economical manner.

- Perform according to the required industry standards.

Required minimum knowledge, skills education/training, and experience requirement(s):

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, education/training, and experience required for this position:

- Matric, Grade 12, or equivalent qualification.

- Qualified welder, turner, machinist, fitter, and boiler maker plus experience with forklifts or similar material handling with a minimum working experience of 5 years.

- Excellent work ethic - honest, reliable, hardworking, dedicated, and takes pride in work carried out.

- High-developed prioritizing and multi-tasking skills, a strong sense of urgency, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

- Excellent communication skills with people at all levels in an organization - must be able to converse fluently and comfortably in English, must be able to read and write - English.

- Dedication to service excellence in every aspect of work carried out; strong focus on attention to detail and accuracy.

- Ability to work with little or no supervision and still complete tasks timeously, enthusiastic, self-motived, and can use own initiative.

- Ability to work under pressure.

- Ability to understand and follow safety measures and precautions.

- Ability to interpret and apply technical information.

- Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications.

- Ability to identify and correctly utilize relevant specialized tools.

- Willingness and capability to continue learning and growing with new technology and models.

- Ability to receive constructive criticism.

- Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition.

- Ability to understand and follow safety measures and precautions.

- Ability to function effectively in a group and add value to the team/environment.

- Ability to work under pressure.

- Ability to manage own time - to work according to a schedule and complete set tasks in time.

- Must be of sober habits, have high energy levels and general good health - must be declared fit for physical performance requirements of these tasks - physically able to carry, lift, and move heavy objects; must be able to stand and sit for long periods, must be able to bend, stretch, twist and reach with body, arms and/or legs.

- Must be able to do standby and work overtime as and when required.

Required certificates, licenses, and registrations:

- Trade Test Certificate (Machinist, Welder, Fitter, Boilermaker).

- Code 8 driver's license (for Field Service Technicians).

Preferred knowledge, skills education/training and experience requirement(s):

- Advanced welding experience with relevant trade papers.

- Advanced hydraulic equipment repair.
