Overview In order to discharge its mandate, the FAIS Ombud seeks to appoint Graduate Trainees as part of the Graduate Recruitment Programme. This is a structured programme specifically designed to produce a pipeline of competent trainee entrants to the labour market. The duration of the programme is twelve months. Recommended candidates will be given an opportunity to learn under a dedicated mentor. Graduates will be assigned to the Case Management / Adjudication Department and exposed to various competency‑based training. Benefits of the programme include exposure to working in a target‑driven environment on complaints received by the public against financial service providers and moving those towards a resolution in a procedurally fair, informal, economical and expeditious manner. The role involves working in a team of experienced lawyers, financial planners, investigators and negotiators, and offers the opportunity to be part of an established statutory office and a Mentorship Programme. Key Performance Areas Dispute Resolution: Facilitate fair negotiations and settlements when appropriate. Stakeholder Engagement: Interact respectfully with all parties involved in the process. Case Evaluation: Analyse evidence and arguments thoroughly and objectively. Timeliness & Efficiency: Adjudicate cases promptly and manage workload effectively. Confidentiality: Maintain the security and confidentiality of case information. Fairness & Impartiality: Ensure unbiased, ethical, and conflict‑free decision‑making. Communication: Clearly articulate rulings and explain legal concepts effectively. Qualifications South African citizen with a valid South African Identity document. LLB degree. PLT (Practical Legal Training) will be an advantage. Passion for public service and an interest / desire to work in the Financial Sector. Strong academic background. Must be able to work in a stressful environment; willing to learn and work extra hours. Energetic, self‑driven and deadline‑driven. Must be computer literate.
