Job Description PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES To implement, maintain, continuously develop and improve all HSE related areas, including legal compliance, client requirements and H&S management system requirements as per local and Global requirements at the Northam Laboratory. RESPONSIBILITIES Implement the business line H&S Top page at Northam site Implement, maintain and control HSMS (SGS), Northam Safety Management System and local HSE regulatory requirements (E.G SADPMR, DMRE etc.) at responsible site Manage clear HSE related communication between role players (Business H&S, Site personnel and Management). Increase the use of SGS H&S systems (e.g. Stellar, Crystal, Chemwatch, and other SGS apps) Ensure the Northam MySHEQ system is used as requested by the client. Form part of client H&S meetings and provide feedback to all employees. Promote HSE awareness (Campaigns, awareness, communications etc.) throughout the responsible site. Support the staff in improving Safety Culture for the site. Participate in identifying HSE Training needs, developing in training matrixes and plans. Organize & conduct H&S training aligned with HSMS and local regulatory requirements. Ensure the medical surveillance and biological monitoring program is implemented and compliant with local Regulatory, client & SGS requirements. Report and manage H&S related incidents, near misses, hazards and best practices in accordance with group expectations Conduct site specific Incident Investigations Ensure all newcomers undergo HSE induction and proper onboarding before work commence. Also ensure all staff go for annual refresher induction training. Ensure sustainability monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual reporting is done. Ensure Visual Management boards are up to date with current information. Develop and Review Emergency Response plans and participate in the Emergency response team. Support and participate in relevant SHE Committee meetings. Report incident, near misses, hazards and site KPI’s monthly Facilitate Risk Assessments through the Crystal module Implement Global H&S Initiatives throughout responsible site where applicable (Safe Start, Stellar, Safety Month, Quarterly Campaigns, Safe Talks, SGS Rules for Life, Stop Work Authority, BBS, etc.) Ensure corrective action implementation from Incidents / Best Practices Conduct internal H&S inspections / site visits and provide guidance and assistance on related challenged and areas of improvement Evaluate the business process, procedures in relation to changes and amendments as and when required Assist locations with internal and external audits, client visits, governmental / regulatory visits etc. Adhere and ensure adherence to all safety requirements of the SGS management system. Perform any reasonable tasks assigned by your Manager. SPECIFIC AUHORITIES Exercise your right to STOP unsafe work conducted by yourself or others and immediately report the issue to your manager and/or relevant Manager. Report immediately all hazards, incidents and integrity issues Raise suggestions & improvements that may improve SGS’s safety culture and uphold the organization’s integrity. Report and nonconformities or H&S complaints Comply with the company code of integrity, business principles, governances, and impartiality, etc. Comply with company internal and local rules, policies & procedures. Qualifications Education Matric Safety Diploma or equivalent SAMTRAC / NEBOSH / COMSOC (Completed or in progress) Legal Liability HIRA OHS / Mine Act ASHEPP ISO 14001, ISO45001 introduction & implementation SHE Representative HAZCHEM (Where applicable) Experience English spoken At 5 – 10 years’ experience in HSE Microsoft Experience – Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint & Outlook Document and report writing experience Code B (South African) driver’s licence Broad knowledge of applicable legislations (OHS/NEMA/MINE) Required Skills Possess analytical mine and can plan and prioritize. Able to work under pressure with speed and efficiency. Able to work under own initiative with high degree of autonomy. Ability to understand and explain technical (HSE specific) topics for all levels of personnel Ability to work without direct reporting lines Committed to job and shows interest in company’s success Energetic, self-confident, ability to be assertive and to demonstrate conviction Lead by example Ability to understand site contributions to Regional H&S Performance and capability to use existing tools; prioritizing risks and influencing factors Ability to influence without direct reporting lines Ability to evaluate the accuracy of root cause analysis and the effectiveness of proposed solutions Sufficient knowledge of English to communicate with the H&S Manager and to understand Global H&S Communications Translates Strategy into Actions – Effectively communicates strategy and action plans to others.
