Position Title: Indigenous Engagement Advisor Program: Administration Location: Alice Springs Classification: WDNWPT Enterprise Agreement 2022 – Level 5 Responsible To: People and Culture Experience (HR) Manager Position Summary The Indigenous Engagement Advisor is responsible for providing mentoring and guidance to Purple House’s Indigenous workforce and developing relevant programs to support sustainable careers. Special Conditions Aboriginality is a legitimate prerequisite for this position The position is offered aligned to the funding term. New appointments are probationary for the first six months. About Purple House Our mission is to improve the lives of people with renal failure, reunite families and reduce the impact of kidney disease in our communities. We are run by Aboriginal people for Aboriginal people and work to provide culturally appropriate dialysis services in remote communities, helping people to get home to country and family. Demonstrate cultural awareness and knowledge of cultural safety and Indigenous community control. Maintain confidentiality of information about clients, other staff members or community members. Work to achieve standards of best practice and promote continuous quality improvement. Demonstrate safe work practices and promote a safe work environment. Functions Provide mentoring, advice, and guidance to our Indigenous workforce on work performance, professional expectations, wellbeing, and welfare. Assist with developing programs to support Indigenous workforce performance and sustainable career development. Assist the HR Manager in developing the Indigenous Employment Strategy and collaborate with the People & Culture team to increase Aboriginal employment, retention, and career growth. Liaise with relevant stakeholders to support the Aboriginal workforce and ensure cultural safety within the workforce, benefiting both Aboriginal staff and patients. Build strong relationships with Indigenous employees, supporting their personal growth, cultural identity, and community connection. Monitor trainee progress through face-to-face and non-face-to-face contact to support safe and successful completion of traineeships. Provide input into the planning and coordination of cultural activities and events that promote cultural safety. Lead cultural orientation for new staff and support ongoing cultural learning. Lead the development, implementation, and training of cultural safety resources. Support culturally safe practices across the organisation and provide cultural advice to strengthen workplace culture and service delivery. Promote a safe work environment in accordance with legislative requirements; adhere to Work Health Safety guidelines and report all incidents and near misses. Participate in internal projects and committees related to cultural safety and Aboriginal workforce development. Undertake other duties as assigned, within trained capacity and level. Key Competencies (Selection Criteria) Essential Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and sustain working relationships with a diverse range of people. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexible and action-oriented approach to work, with the ability to manage multiple tasks. Proven understanding of the barriers affecting Indigenous people in establishing meaningful, rewarding long-term careers. Strong knowledge of Aboriginal culture, with the ability to communicate, teach, and promote cultural understanding and safety within the workplace. Excellent relationship management skills. High level of initiative and strong written and verbal communication skills. Willingness and capacity to work in a cross-cultural environment. Willingness to work under the direction of Indigenous leadership. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. Knowledge of and commitment to Quality Improvement. Hold a current driver’s licence. Knowledge of current Work Health Safety legislation.
