Job Description Number of positions: 1 Location of position: Mortimer Smelter This role is at a GBF 7 level reporting to the Section Engineer. Responsibilities Assist the Operation management team in developing an operational plan for the year to support the process in achieving throughput objectives. Plan, up to 1 year ahead, and assist with 5-year planning, the budget requirements according to the planned maintenance schedules versus operational targets and budgets. Plan the spares requirements according to the planned maintenance schedule and ensure their availability. Communicate with the Operation management team regarding daily, weekly and monthly progress to plan, budget and employee resources. Ensure that all work practices are executed in compliance with legal requirements. Communicate progress of section against operational targets and objectives via a design communication and supervisory forum to subordinates. Evaluate, monitor and provide continuous feedback to the section regarding performance efficiencies, standards of the section labor, equipment, budget and process targets. Oversee the quality of workmanship and conduct regular inspections around the section and ensure the Operation Process remains fully operational. Plan daily, weekly and monthly work requirements and priorities with operational team. Allocate labor resources and equipment to scheduled and priority activities so as to maintain and ensure high levels of labour, equipment and operational performance standards. Collaborate with other Supervisors to identify overlapping problems and discuss them proactively. Foster a healthy spirit of cooperation within the section. Identify operational priorities to ensure optimization of the section’s performance. Monitor the process to identify possible problems or risk areas and schedule remedy actions. Ensure availability for after-hours standby duties. Allocate multi-task team members to artisans when required. Accompany the Engineer during regular inspections and audits around the section. Review operational plans and reassign targets and objectives to subordinates. Provide regular support to process operational and technical employees within the section as well as to other sections on boiler making matters. Takes charge during crises and major overhauls. Conduct regular inspections on all works to ensure safety and maintain technical standards. Assist / guide the Maintenance Clerk to supply reliable maintenance information. Good Employee Relations Ensure employees have clear work expectations and plans. Communicate effectively with managers. Support induction of new employees. Assist with succession planning process of the section. Conduct disciplinary and grievance inquiries. Identify potential conflict situations and minimize implications. Control discipline and ensure fair decisions regarding Industrial Relations. Manage cultural diversity fairly. Identify ideas to increase motivation. Ensure work is fairly allocated. Ensure competency of employees for required work. Advise employees on career opportunities and growth requirements. Maintain discipline through objective and fair application of employee supervision rules. Develop strong cooperation and teamwork. Encourage pride in workmanship. Ensure section supports one another in accomplishing targets. Oversee that required material, equipment, spares and staff are available. Participate in selection of section team employees. Maintain two-way open communication with employees. Develop trusting mutual respect relationship with internal and external suppliers. Ensure employees work in a safe environment. Support training and development requirements. Administration of Necessary Compile accurate reports. Ensure required job instructions are available. Implement and maintain applicable Safety, Regulations, The Act, Codes of practice, procedures and standards. Complete safety, injury, hazard, risk and incident reports. Conduct required meetings including safety. Establish procedures for abnormal work requirements outside standard procedures. Maintain accurate labor records including overtime. Ensure all data captured on operational and technical information and control systems are accurate and timely. Prepare ad hoc reports for management or other information customers. Assist and participate in Risk Management Programs. Complete audit administration. Ensure engineering administration requirements are complied with. Review operational and technical data to extract trends, identify problems and compile management reports. Qualifications Engineering Foreman Certificate. Electrical Trade Certificate. Certified Competent 2.9.2. Experience Two years plus experience required as Foreman. Knowledge and Skills Computer literate in full MS Office. Good analytical and decision-making skills.
