Professor / Associate Professor (Permanent) and Rotational HOD (5-year contract) – Department of Food Science & Technology (Re-Advertisement) – Cape Peninsula University of Technology Applied Sciences – Faculty of Food Technology Job Type : Permanent Job Purpose : The Professor / Associate Professor will develop and lead research in Food Science and Technology; strengthen research capacity through collaborations, mentorships, fundraising, and postgraduate recruitment and supervision; and contribute to the Faculty goals in Learning & Teaching, Research, Community Engagement, and Academic Leadership. Head of Department Responsibilities Academic project management (i.e., planning, coordination, and monitoring of academic projects). Research management, including proposal development and research outputs. HR and staff management. Financial management. Student management. Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience – Professor / Associate Professor A doctoral degree in Food Science or an equivalent qualification. Higher Education experience of at least eight years (Professor) or six years (Associate Professor). Research and postgraduate supervision commensurate with Institutional Promotion requirements for the level applied for. Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience – Head of Department Doctorate in Food Science or equivalent qualification. 5 years of relevant experience, 3 of which must be as Senior Lecturer or above. 2 years of management experience related to the functions of a HOD (academic management, curriculum development, quality assurance and accreditation processes, financial and HR management in a Department). Research and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or above. Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities for Professor / Associate Professor Teach at all levels of Food Science & Technology. Supervise Master’s and Doctoral students. Participate in research projects and produce DHET-accredited publications. Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department. Participate in curriculum development and quality assurance activities of the Department. Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department.
