Job Title: Maternity Unit Manager Department: Maternity / Obstetrics Employment Type: Full-time Location: Rondebosch, Cape Town, Western Cape Job Summary: The Maternity Unit Manager is responsible for the overall management and leadership of the maternity unit, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered maternal and neonatal care. Key Responsibilities: Staff Management: Supervise, support, and coordinate nursing and midwifery staff in the maternity unit. Clinical Oversight: Ensure adherence to maternal and neonatal care standards and provide guidance in complex cases. Policy & Compliance: Ensure unit operates in compliance with SANC guidelines, Department of Health regulations, and hospital policies. Unit Operations: Oversee day-to-day unit activities, including patient care, workflow, and resource allocation. Quality & Safety: Monitor patient care outcomes and ensure adherence to infection control and safety standards. Communication: Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams (obstetricians, midwives, paediatricians, support staff) to ensure smooth unit operations. Qualifications & Requirements: Registered Nurse with a valid South African Nursing Council (SANC) registration. Postgraduate qualification in Nursing Management, Midwifery, or equivalent is preferred. Experience in maternity/obstetric nursing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Knowledge of South African healthcare regulations, maternal and neonatal care standards, and quality assurance frameworks. Ability to work under pressure, make critical decisions, and manage emergencies effectively. Skills & Competencies: Leadership and team management Clinical expertise in maternal and neonatal care Quality improvement and risk management Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Problem-solving and decision-making under pressure
