An opportunity for an experienced WORKSHOP MANAGER is required for permanent employment based in Gauteng.

HVAC / Ventilation / Air Filtration or similar industry experience

Previous workshop exposure and experience in the Design, Engineering, Fabrication, Manufacturing & Installation of;

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Workshop Management:

  • Track and trace inspection failure rate of inspectors and teams
  • Manage all project planning activities
  • Improve quality standards by implementing new or different production methods and strategies
  • Ensure all stores requirements are adhered to and feed into group finance team to ensure compliance
  • Ensure lockable areas for high value items and hazardous chemicals are kept and audited.
  • Manage and participate in stock takes
  • Manage day to day operations of the workshop floor operations and ensure efficient workflow
  • Oversee inputs into scheduling, resource management, procurement and estimation
  • Assure proper use of equipment, tools, consumables and housekeeping
  • Manage generation, submission and approval of RFIs
  • Manage and identify risk on workshop floor and production by reviewing works and reporting on findings timeously

Technical

  • Analyse drawings and GAs for production staff work packs
  • Identify technical clashes and redline of drawings and assist with revisions
  • Document control of received drawings and new revisions

Procurement

  • Ensure we maintain company policy in terms of how procurement is done eg. 3 quote system, supply chain policies & procedures

Production

  • Ensure sufficient resources are allocated to execute each task efficiently
  • Ensure all tender norms are adhered to in terms of productivity and efficiency to maintain and improve contract GP and margins
  • Strategic planning with Project Engineers, Project Managers
  • Ensure all company policies, standards and procedures are adhered to at all times
  • Strategic planning to pull the schedule forward
  • Continual improvement on schedule
  • Oversee that all contracts for employees have been signed
  • Ensure LRA and all site specific requirements are displayed, communicated and met
  • Ensure all pay queries are dealt with swiftly to avoid instability in the workforce
  • Review timesheets and do overtime applications according to company procedure
  • Manage and enforce discipline in the workplace by issuing warnings as required
  • Manage a cohesive working environment with regular engagement with staff, developing workshops and having an open door policy
  • Ensure fixed term contract of employment conditions are maintained and contracts managed
  • Recruitment and selection of staff to meet operational needs

Cost Management

  • Track project cost vs the allowable BOQ for all activities including: wage bill, consumables, transport, equipment
  • Corporate financial budgeting and tracking
  • Salary and wage budgeting, forecasting and monthly checking
  • Monthly financial meeting with group financial manager and group managing director
  • Continuous cost saving drives including stores management, fabrication, activities, operational management, Commercial
  • Enforce all clauses as per the contract with the client
  • Ensure QS report is in line with the allowance and submit the necessary letters for items that need to be remeasured and agreed upon with clients QS
  • Identify and submit schedule impacts
  • Identify, evaluate and determine claimable delays as per the approved schedule in line with the client contract and submit accordingly
  • Ensure variation orders and site instructions are received in writing and recorded
  • Liaise with client on all progress, site and commercial issues regarding the project
  • Receive RFQ and estimate full project for submission
  • Attend to estimation clarifications and finalize to secure project
  • Actively participate in project close-out and lessons learned events, including job card review, and implement improvements.
  • Field monitoring and pro-active analysis of actual work progress to ensure the schedule can be used for decision making
  • Create & implement job cards system. Create job cards and allocation materials and issue to production team
  • Present weekly projection reports to group managing director and EXCO
    Balance and total of labour bill
  • Client & labour interface

Project Management

  • Ensure all work is executed as per client specification
  • Ensure all material is received and up to specification
  • Ensure all quality checks are done timeously
  • Oversee quality aspects and audits
  • Manage compilation of data books
  • Create low level internal drawings for the production team
  • Job card sign off and release prior to manufacturing, prepare stock release per agreed procedure
  • Create change orders and obtain required approvals
  • Record and estimate all shop floor change orders (RFI)
  • Oversee generation of cutting list for execution

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Relevant tertiary qualification

Relevant Trade Test

Min 5-7 years Workshop Management exp.
