About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly accomplished Principal AI Research Scientist to lead pioneering research initiatives in Artificial Intelligence . This fully remote position offers a unique opportunity to define and drive the company's AI research agenda, working from anywhere within South Africa . You will be at the forefront of innovation, exploring novel algorithms, developing groundbreaking AI systems, and contributing to high-impact publications. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute cutting-edge research projects in areas such as deep learning, reinforcement learning, computer vision, or NLP.
- Develop novel AI methodologies and algorithms to solve complex, fundamental challenges.
- Publish research findings in top-tier scientific venues and present work globally.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of AI researchers and engineers.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate research breakthroughs into practical applications.
- Identify emerging trends and opportunities in AI research and development.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- 10+ years of extensive research experience in AI, with a proven track record of impactful contributions, publications, and leadership.
- Expertise in one or more core AI sub-fields (e.g., deep learning, generative models, reinforcement learning).
- Deep knowledge of mathematical foundations, statistical methods, and algorithm design.
- Experience leading research teams and managing complex research projects.
