CONTRACT POSITION SERVER SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

Our client, an International Mining Company, has a contract vacancy for a Server Systems Administrator.
Own Vehicle, Valid Drivers' License is required as there is a lot of traveling involved as different sites through SA will have to be visited.

Purpose of this role:

The Server Systems Administrator manages project tasks planned and agreed upon with the Project Manager, Client and Server Support Team. His/her responsibilities include the coordination and completion of projects tasks and administration as per the agreed scope. Adhere to timeliness and change control processes with guidance from Project Manager, System Specialists and Site Supervisors. Regular feedback is requiredas agreed with the Project Manager and Site Teams, completing reports and signoffs regarding status of project. The successful candidate will work directly with clients to ensure deliverables fall within the applicable scope and budget. He or she will coordinate and colaborate with other departments to ensure all aspects of each project are compatible. He/She will inform and advise the Project Manager of any risks or issues identified. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices and procedures. Rely on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Perform a variety of tasks. The ideal candidate have strong understanding of various technical concepts, practices, and procedures within the Information Management field. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a program/project manager. Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily colaboration and alignment with the Project Manager and System Specialists.
  • Installaltion, configurations, commisioning and maintaining server hardware and software.
  • Coordinate and mange multiple deployments simultaneously across multiple opperations.
  • Coordinate internal resources and third-parties/vendors for the seamless execution of projects.
  • Monitor and track progress as per project plan, ensuring that all tasks are delivered on-time as per project schedule.
  • Coordinate tasks and agree resource availability and allocation with Site Supervisors.
  • Measure project hardware performance using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Report and escalate to management as needed.
  • Develop the relationship with the client and all stakeholders.
  • Continuasly perform risk management to minimize project risks.
  • Establish,maintain and manage relationships with third parties/vendors.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
  • Meet with clients to take detailed ordering briefs and clarify specific requirements of each project and outer year planning.
  • Delegate agreed-upon project tasks based on Site Technician and resorces availability and schedules.
  • Use and continually develop skills.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Develop spreadsheets, diagrams and process maps to document project deliverables and requirements.

Formal qualifications:

  • Completed Grade 12 (Matric).
  • 3-5 years relevant work experience.
  • Business communication and understanding.
  • MCSE.
  • Microsoft Hyper-V (Advantageous).
  • VMware Administration Skills Essential.
  • ITIL preferred.

Role-specific knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of IT and virtual infrastructures.
  • Orchestrate documentation of procedures, standards and activities.
  • Install and prepare servers for shipment.
  • Rack and Stack server equipment.
  • Basic server configuration including network configuration and remote access.
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 up to Server 2022 installation and/or deployment.
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Solid working knowledge of VMWare environment (setup, config and management).

Safety Knowledge:

  • Provides a consistent outstanding role model concerning safety practices with a deep understanding of the importance of safety as per Site requirements.

Skills Ability to:

  • Creating server operating system deployment images.
  • System Center Configuration Manager.
  • Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 R2 and 2022.
  • Microsoft Cluster services.
  • Remote support, resolving technical issues and provides technical assistance for all Operating systems.
  • Implementing, installation, configuring, monitoring, trouble shooting and evaluating existing and new operating systems.
  • Confers with database programmers, analysts or other system administrators.
  • Directs technicians involved in diagnosing and correcting systems related to failures and performing system management.

  • Perform standard system installations with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform duties under pressure.
  • Operate a variety of related Server, Software, LAN and WAN equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic software, hardware and network problems.
  • Communicate clearly, effectively in both orally and in writing.
