General Worker – Health Risk Waste Management Plant

Key Responsibilities:Safely handle and move healthcare risk waste containers, boxes, and bags throughout the plant.Load and offload waste from collection vehicles and transfer it to the designated treatment area.Assist in the operation of autoclaves, shredders, or other waste treatment machinery.Sort, weigh, and label waste according to type and treatment requirement.Maintain a clean and hygienic work area, including waste processing zones, equipment, and vehicles.Adhere strictly to company protocols for infection control, environmental protection, and health & safety compliance.Ensure correct use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times.Report any unsafe conditions, equipment faults, or incidents immediately to the supervisor.Support the plant’s recycling and recovery initiatives by segregating waste and minimising landfill disposal.Participate in safety drills, training, and toolbox talks.Assist during the plant’s waste sterilisation, shredding, and destruction processes as required.Record daily waste movements and assist with basic administrative tasks when needed.Minimum Requirements:Grade 10 / NQF Level 2 (Grade 12 advantageous).Previous experience in waste management, manufacturing, or environmental services will be an advantage.Familiarity with handling healthcare risk waste or hazardous materials preferred.Physically fit and able to perform manual labour safely.Ability to follow instructions and work in compliance with health, safety, and environmental guidelines.Willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.Skills and Competencies:Safety-conscious and environmentally responsible mindset.Good teamwork and communication skills.Attention to detail and commitment to operational cleanliness.Reliable, punctual, and able to work under pressure.Strong sense of responsibility and respect for health and safety procedures.Working Conditions:Work is conducted in a regulated waste treatment facility.Exposure to healthcare risk waste (protective gear provided).May involve working in high-temperature or noisy environments.Must wear company-issued PPE at all times (safety boots, gloves, overalls, mask, etc.).
