Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter or in a similar role within an industrial, manufacturing, or engineering environment. A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience working with mechanical systems and components.
  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualifications in mechanical fitting or engineering are highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, rotating equipment, and motors, pumps, and compressors. Experience with machine tools, fitting techniques, and installation procedures is essential.
  • Ability to use a wide range of mechanical fitting tools, including hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify faults and implement corrective actions effectively and efficiently.
  • In-depth knowledge of industrial safety standards, including the correct handling of tools, machinery, and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting and moving heavy parts, working in confined spaces, and standing or kneeling for extended periods.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, collaborate with engineers and other departments, and communicate effectively to solve mechanical issues. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities:
  • Mechanical Assembly and Installation:
    Assemble, install, and fit mechanical components and systems, including pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, and other machinery as per technical drawings and specifications.
  • Maintenance and Repairs:
    Conduct routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on mechanical equipment and systems to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency. Diagnose and fix mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and hands-on expertise.
  • Reading Technical Drawings and Schematics:
    Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical schematics to ensure proper installation and alignment of mechanical systems and components.
  • Precision Measurement:
    Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure correct dimensions and tolerances for mechanical components.
  • Fabrication and Modifications:
    Assist in the fabrication of parts and components when required. Modify existing equipment to meet new specifications or design changes.
  • System Inspections:
    Perform regular inspections of mechanical systems and components to detect wear, corrosion, or other signs of damage. Perform preventive maintenance to extend the lifespan of machinery and reduce the risk of failure.
  • Safety Compliance:
    Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Follow proper safety procedures, including the use of appropriate PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, and other safety protocols.
  • Collaboration and Reporting:
    Work closely with other maintenance staff, engineers, and production teams to ensure the seamless operation of equipment. Report maintenance activities and update system logs.
  • Tool and Equipment Management:
    Maintain and manage tools and equipment required for mechanical fitting tasks. Ensure tools are in good working order and stored properly.
