About the Role

Our client, a leading outdoor adventure and tourism operator in the scenic region of Nelspruit , is seeking a skilled and experienced Mountain Biking Trails Developer. This position is responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of high-quality mountain biking trails within their expansive property and surrounding areas. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of trail design principles, sustainable building practices, and the technical aspects of mountain biking. You will work in collaboration with environmental consultants and local authorities to ensure trails are safe, enjoyable, and ecologically sound. This role requires a passion for mountain biking, strong practical skills, and a commitment to creating world-class riding experiences for enthusiasts in Mpumalanga . The successful candidate will play a key role in enhancing the region's reputation as a premier mountain biking destination.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and blueprint new mountain biking trails, considering terrain, rider skill levels, and environmental impact.
• Oversee and participate in the construction of new trails, using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Implement and manage ongoing maintenance schedules for existing trails to ensure safety and longevity.
• Utilize machinery such as excavators, mini-diggers, and hand tools for trail construction and maintenance.
• Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and best practices for sustainable trail building.
• Work collaboratively with stakeholders, including land managers, environmentalists, and the local cycling community.
• Assess trail conditions regularly and perform necessary repairs and improvements.
• Manage a small team of trail maintenance staff or contractors as required.
• Keep abreast of the latest trends and innovations in trail design and construction.
• Contribute to the overall development of the adventure tourism offerings of the client.

Requirements

• Proven experience in mountain bike trail design and construction.
• Proficiency with trail design software and mapping tools (e.g., GIS, Trailforks).
• Experience operating heavy machinery and hand tools used in trail construction.
• Strong understanding of soil science, drainage, and erosion control principles.
• Knowledge of environmental best practices and regulations related to land management.
• Excellent physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• A passion for mountain biking and the outdoors.
• Relevant certifications in trail building or related fields are advantageous.
