About the Role
Our client, a leading upstream player in the Oil & Gas industry, is actively seeking a Senior Geologist to join their exploration team based in Welkom. This position is integral to identifying and evaluating prospective hydrocarbon basins, contributing critical geological insights to exploration strategies. You will be responsible for interpreting seismic data, geological models, and well information to assess resource potential and manage exploration risk. This role offers a significant opportunity to influence exploration direction and contribute to major discoveries within a company that values scientific rigor and innovation in resource discovery.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and integrate diverse geological and geophysical data sets, including seismic, well logs, and core samples.
- Develop and refine regional and prospect-level geological models to identify potential hydrocarbon plays.
- Conduct geological risk assessments and uncertainty analyses for exploration opportunities.
- Collaborate with reservoir engineers and geophysicists to formulate integrated exploration strategies.
- Plan and supervise geological field operations, including core acquisition and analysis.
- Prepare detailed geological reports and technical presentations for internal stakeholders and joint venture partners.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Geology, Geophysics, or a related Earth Science field.
- Minimum of 9 years of hands‑on experience in geological exploration, preferably within the Oil & Gas sector.
- Proficiency in seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom) and geological modeling tools.
- Strong understanding of sedimentology, stratigraphy, and structural geology relevant to hydrocarbon systems.
- Experience in basin analysis and prospect evaluation.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex geological concepts effectively.
