- A well-established fresh produce farming operation is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, and repair the fleet of diesel-powered vehicles and machinery. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repair work to ensure optimal operational efficiency and minimal downtime.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- Must have a relevant Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience working on agricultural machinery and vehicles
- Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills are essential
- Must have experience working with agricultural machinery, trucks, or earth-moving equipment
- Knowledge of diagnostic tools and software for modern diesel engines is essential
- Welding and fabrication skills are advantageous
- Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to work in various conditions, including outdoor environments and confined spaces
- Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, self-motivated, and ability to work under pressure
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults in diesel engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
- Conducting routine maintenance, inspections, and servicing fleet vehicles and machinery.
- Performing engine overhauls, brake repairs, gearbox servicing, and other mechanical work.
- Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company maintenance standards.
- Maintaining accurate service records and documenting all repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Ordering and managing spare parts inventory efficiently.
- Working closely with the fleet management team to schedule and prioritize repairs.
- Providing breakdown assistance and field repairs when necessary.
- Training and guiding junior mechanics and apprentices when required.
- Adhering to workplace safety policies and procedures at all times.
