This role offers the opportunity to support cutting-edge hearing care in a collaborative and culturally sensitive clinical setting.Role Summary:The Audiology Technician is responsible for conducting basic hearing tests, assisting with AI-driven diagnostic procedures, and ensuring a smooth, respectful patient experience. This position supports the early detection of hearing loss and integrates with broader diagnostic services such as radiology and general practice.Key Responsibilities:Conduct hearing assessments including pure-tone audiometry, otoacoustic emissions (OAE), and tympanometryPrepare patients for hearing tests and explain procedures in clear, accessible languageEducate patients on basic hearing health and preventative practices (e.g. noise protection)Assist with AI-supported diagnostics (e.g., dual fluorescence oral imaging), with training providedCalibrate and maintain audiology equipment (e.g. audiometers, OAE devices) to ensure accuracyManage patient records in digital systems, ensuring POPIA complianceProvide compassionate care and guide patients throughout the testing processCollaborate with general practitioners, radiological technologists, and optometric techniciansSchedule appointments and manage patient flowMonitor stock of audiology supplies and assist with inventoryAdhere to hygiene and diagnostic quality standards aligned with national health protocolsQualifications Required:Certificate or Diploma in Health Sciences, Hearing Aid Acoustics, or a related field from a South African institution accredited by HWSETATraining in preliminary hearing tests (e.g., audiometry, OAE, tympanometry) is essentialExperience:1-2 years of experience in audiology, hearing aid dispensing, or allied health settings preferredProven ability to perform hearing tests and maintain audiology equipmentExperience with AI-supported diagnostic tools is advantageous (training provided)Skills:Technical proficiency in basic hearing assessments and equipment calibrationStrong interpersonal and communication skills for patient engagementCompetence in digital record-keeping and adherence to POPIAAbility to work efficiently in a patient-facing, fast-paced environmentCore Competencies:Compassionate, guest-centric care aligned with hospitality standardsAccuracy in test administration and record keepingOpenness to learning and supporting AI-driven diagnostic platformsCultural sensitivity in diverse patient interactionsStrong collaboration with multidisciplinary clinical teamsCommitment to continuous learning and staying up to date with diagnostic protocolsRegulatory & Compliance Requirements:Comply with POPIA for secure patient data managementAdhere to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA):54 hours/week for 6-day cycle (includes 9 overtime hours at 1.5x)45 hours/week for 5-day cycleMaintain hygiene protocols and infection prevention standardsSupport ongoing quality control aligned with Audiology SA guidelinesWorking Conditions:On-site role at a diagnostic screening facility, operating daily from 08:0017:00Single shift structure with a 9-hour workday (including 1-hour unpaid meal break)High levels of patient interaction requiring a professional and empathetic demeanorMinimal biohazard exposure, mitigated by strict safety measuresAdherence to clinical dress code and hygiene standards requiredSalary and Benefits:Entry-level (0-1 year experience): R15,000 - R18,000/month (R180,000R216,000/year)Early career (1-3 years experience): R18,000 - R22,000/month (R216,000R264,000/year)
