Minimum RequirementsEducation & QualificationsBTech Mechanical Engineering or National Diploma (ND) in Mechanical EngineeringSouth African citizen valid SA ID requiredExperience35+ years experience in:Mechanical draughting and designSolidWorks (Advanced proficiency required)CAD modelling, assembly drawings, and manufacturing drawingsHeavy manufacturing and fabrication environmentsSheet metal, structural steel, welding, machining, and component detailingExperience interacting with workshop, fabrication teams, and production engineering Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & DraughtingCreate detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs using SolidWorks and other CAD toolsProduce fabrication drawings, general arrangement (GA) drawings, and detailed component drawingsMaintain drawing standards, revision control, and ensure all documentation is accurate and compliantEngineering SupportCollaborate with mechanical engineers, production teams, and workshop supervisors on projectsInterpret technical specifications, customer requirements, and manufacturing constraintsConduct design calculations and select appropriate materials for heavy-duty applicationsManufacturing & Fabrication InterfaceProvide clear technical guidance to boilermakers, welders, machinists, and assembly teamsEnsure drawings are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with fabrication capabilitiesAssist with resolving technical queries from the workshop or fabrication floorQuality & ComplianceEnsure all designs meet engineering standards, safety requirements, and industry regulationsParticipate in design reviews, quality checks, and project sign-offsMaintain accurate documentation, BOMs, and drawing registersSkills & CompetenciesAdvanced proficiency in SolidWorks, CAD modelling, and 3D designStrong understanding of engineering principles, fabrication techniques, and manufacturing processesAbility to read, interpret, and produce detailed technical drawingsExcellent problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitudeStrong communication and teamwork abilitiesHigh attention to detail and accuracyAbility to work in a high-pressure, project-driven fabrication environmentAdditional AdvantagesExperience with FEA, stress analysis, or simulation softwareExposure to CNC machining or tooling designKnowledge of ISO Standards for fabrication and manufacturingExperience in heavy industrial sectors such as mining, steel, materials handling, or machinery manufacturing
