Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Understand and provide appropriate authorization coding and fee structure for relevant isotope studies performed.
  • To understand normal anatomy with the ability to recognize abnormalities and irregularities and indicate these to the radiologist.
  • Routinely perform daily QA tests and maintain quality control records under guidance from supervisors.
  • Understand the transfer process through PACS and RIS to ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Be able to trouble shoot, understand and identify malfunctions in equipment and image quality.
  • Safely operate all related nuclear medicine equipment.
  • Calculate, measure and record radiation dosage and radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed of.
  • Detect and map radiopharmaceuticals injected into a patient using a Gamma camera to compute images.
  • Explain safety precautions to patients and provide them with assistance during the examination.
  • Administer radiopharmaceuticals for the detection of diseases under the direction of a Nuclear Medicine physician.
  • Produce computer generated images of excellent diagnostic quality.
  • Dispose of radioactive materials and store radiopharmaceuticals by using the radiation procedure safety protocol.
  • Accurately record and process the results of a nuclear medicine procedure.
  • Prepare stock radiopharmaceuticals observing the safety standards and minimizing radiation exposure to staff and patients.
  • Maintain in good order and caliber radioisotope and laboratory equipment.
  • Gather medical, clinical and diagnostic imaging history on the patients to assist in the accurate choice of diagnostic radioisotope procedure.
  • Train and supervise students and colleagues to understand the Nuclear Medicine environment.
  • Position patients correctly to achieve the optimal imaging procedure.
  • Participate in mandatory training and actively pursue Continuous Professional Development with an up to date record.
  • Ensure that the x-ray rooms and surrounds are kept neat and clean at all times and record any unsafe conditions within the department to your HOD.
  • Be guided by the appropriate policies and procedures to ensure an orderly and timeous workflow process.
  • Share knowledge and work cohesively within a team.
  • Be on a rotational roster for daily shifts / venues and afterhours duties.
  • Work a 40 hour week and be willing to stay after duty to assist colleagues and in cases of emergency situations.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Qualified Nuclear Medicine Radiographer
    Nat Dip/BTech/BSc Nuclear Medicine
  • Nat Dip/Btech Diagnostic Radiographer advantageous.
  • Registered with HPCSA.
  • CPD compliant.
  • Experience with PETCT and Spect would be
    advantageous.
