TOURISM EDUCATION

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Offering education programmes in the B.Ed., HCSS, PGCE and honours programme focusing on Tourism Education ability to teach History, Geography, or Business Education.
  • Providing postgraduate supervision;
  • Assisting with the assessment of WIL;
  • Course and curriculum development;
  • Teaching in a hybrid environment;
  • Conducting research in the focus areas of the Department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree with a focus on Tourism or Tourism Education.
  • Experience and expertise in teaching
  • Tourism Education and History, Geography, or Business Education;
  • Evidence of the development of modules or programmes in Tourism Education;
  • At least one publication in an accredited journal;
  • Recognised educational qualification (BED or PGCE)

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Ability to engage in teaching and learning at a higher education level;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills in English;
  • A thorough understanding of Tourism Education and History, Geography, or Business Education;
  • Ability to initiate and supervise research at the postgraduate level;
  • Ability to work in a community of scholars;
  • Ability to initiate a research project;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Valuebased and valuedriven person who can set a professional example to students.
  • Formative and summative assessment experience;
  • Academic administration experience;
  • Community engagement experience;

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • PhD with a focus on Tourism or Tourism Education;
  • Experience in assessment or mentoring in Tourism Education;
  • Ability to coordinate or manage programme delivery;
  • Evidence of the development of modules or programmes in Tourism Education and History, Geography, or Business Education;
  • Evidence of research activeness over the past two years.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
