Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and assemble boiler parts.
  • Shape and fabricate parts as required.
  • Clean pressure vessel equipment.
  • Inspect equipment for proper functioning.
  • Fabricate from complex drawings and mark off basic regular engineering shapes.
  • Assemble and mechanically join structural steelwork.
  • Assemble and mechanically join sheets, plates, tubes, pipes, and steel sections.
  • Perform heat treatment processes on engineering metals.
  • Maintain belt conveyor components.
  • Attend to callouts regarding breakdowns and write technical reports.
  • Conduct onthejob coaching.
  • Ensure cost containment.
  • Ensure engineering installations are constructed according to agreed standards, procedures, and specifications.
  • Maintain engineering equipment according to agreed standards and schedules.
  • Bell, bead with power hammers, or weld pressure vessel tube ends to ensure leakproof joints.
  • Construct, assemble, maintain, and repair stationary steam boilers and boiler house auxiliaries.
  • Align structures or plate sections to assemble boiler frame tanks or vats following blueprints.
  • Assist in testing assembled vessels.
  • Direct cleaning of boilers and boiler furnaces.
  • Inspect and repair boiler fittings such as safety valves, regulators, automaticcontrol mechanisms, water columns, and auxiliary machines.
  • Bolt or arcweld pressure vessel structures and parts together.
  • Examine boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and vats to locate defects for repair.
  • Install manholes, hand holes, taps, tubes, valves, gauges, and feed water connections in drums of water tube boilers.
  • Install refractory bricks and other heatresistant materials in fireboxes of pressure vessels.
  • Lay out plates, sheet steel, or other heavy metal, and locate and mark bending and cutting lines.
  • Align and secure structural parts and related assemblies to boiler frames, tanks, or vats of pressure vessels.
  • Repair or replace defective pressure vessel parts using torches, jacks, caulking hammers, power saws, threading dies, welding equipment, and metalworking machinery.
  • Straighten or reshape bent pressure vessel plates and structure parts.
  • Study blueprints to determine locations, relationships, and dimensions of parts.
  • Assemble large vessels in an onsite fabrication shop prior to installation.
  • Attach rigging and signal crane or hoist operators to lift heavy frame and plate sections and other parts into place.
  • Clean pressure vessel equipment using scrapers, wire brushes, and cleaning solvents.
  • Shape and fabricate parts such as stacks, uptakes, and chutes using heavymetalworking machines such as brakes, rolls, and drill presses.

Communication:

  • Communicate all required information to artisans regarding tasks and instructions.
  • Communicate all Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) related matters and legal aspects to management.
  • Communicate all observed damages and/or faults to management.
  • Attend caucus meetings.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills/Knowledge:

Qualifications**:

  • Grade 12/NQF level
  • National N Certificate (Boilermaking N3)
  • Recognized Trade Certificate.
  • Valid Code EB/B driver's license.
  • Welding certificate.

Experience/Skills:

  • Repairing, installation, quality control analysis, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment selection, operation and control, reading comprehension, operation monitoring, safety orientation, selfconfidence.
