The company

Tiko believes in a world where all youth have the power to choose where, when, and how they meet their sexual reproductive health needs.

Our digital platform delivers scalable and verifiable sexual reproductive health services for young people in 5 main markets in Sub Saharan Africa - Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, South Africa and Burkina Faso.

We work together with local communities and use nudges like reminders, discounts, and reward points to encourage our users to access and use sexual and reproductive health services.

We also support our users in becoming micro-entrepreneurs and adding value to their economies.


Our programme in South Africa started in January 2023 and targets 15-24 year old adolescents and young people (AYPs) with sexual and reproductive health services including contraception, HIV testing, antiretroviral treatment (ART), Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and mental health services.

We have ambitious targets to achieve by June 2024 and need the support of an operational consultant to manage the team in Johannesburg to scale both demand, through local community based organisations, and supply, through public sector facilities enabling us to achieve our targets and deliver on our rapid response initiative due to lower than expected achievement in the first year of the project.


For this role, we are only looking for applicants based in Johannesburg, South Africa and available immediately.

The role
As the Operational Consultant, you lead all aspects of country-level strategy and operations in Johannesburg.

You will manage the team to deliver on our donor commitments, achieve targets and drive the team to achieve their weekly and monthly goals and activities.

You collaborate with other internal teams and external stakeholders in order to optimise our impact.

You will be responsible for:

  • Creating a clear implementation plan on how to achieve donor targets with clear roles and responsibilities of the team members;
  • Leading our Johannesburg team to deliver on donor commitments with a focus on SRH, HIV and mental health service uptake and repeat usage;
  • Holding the team to account on a daily basis for their achievement against work plans and activities;
  • Working with the team to map out existing and new geographies of operation to understand the different public health facilities and CBOs in the areas to create active ecosystems of demand and supply partners;
  • Leveraging your networks to onboard new community based organisations (CBOs) to generate demand for services through their mobilisers;
  • Working with the Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) to add additional public health facilities to the Tiko platform in our new and existing ecosystems; conduct data reviews to inform decisions on the implementation including public sector staffing, availability of commodities and regular joint supportive supervision
  • Ensuring we adhere to donor requirements, internal policies and national/local laws and regulations.
  • Enabling an optimised flow of information between your team and the rest of the organisation and between yourself and the company management team
  • Growing our impact through the implementation and expansion of our approach and offerings

About you


You are a proactive and hands-on leader with demonstrated expertise in scaling up operations and a thorough understanding of South Africa's operational and financial landscape.

You have an eye for operational excellence and the networking capabilities to help Tiko grow. You have a strong background in HIV and SRH public sector practices in South Africa.

Requirements:

  • You bring a minimum of 10 years of senior management experience, with a focus on program and project management in the health sector, particularly in Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH and HIV interventions) targeting adolescents and young people.
  • You can hit the ground running and have the ability to motivate teams to ensure achievement of deliverables.
  • You have experience managing a multidisciplinary operational team,with experience in South Africa.
  • You're available immediately.
  • You are fluent in English.

This is a three-month role with the possibility of extension.
