Introduction

Job description

  • Plan, organise, lead, control and take charge in line with legal appointment
  • Achievement of production targets within allowable cost parameters, timelines and quality standards
  • Effective and safe shaft sinking activities including drilling, blasting and lashing
  • Effective management of materials, consumables and receiving and issuing of explosives within tolerances.
  • Effective stage operations and bank activities to ensure safe and timeous production deliverables
  • Participate in the waiting place / preshift meetings to ensure desired parameters related to quality, quantity, cost and safety are understood
  • Effective risk management and compliance with DMR, M&RC and Client's policies, procedures, standards and safety protocols
  • Effective communication to ensure safe and timeous workflows
  • Effective self and team management in alignment with M&RC's values

Minimum requirements

  • Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
  • Numeracy skills
  • Onsetter Certificate and Blasting Certificate (Scheduled Mines)
  • Supervisory Certificate or similar [Plan, Lead, Organise, Control]
  • Basic Rigging and Working at Heights Certificates (advantageous)
  • Certificates to operate an Excavator, a Batch Plant and a Drill Rig (advantageous)
  • Good English verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lead a team and take legal accountability for the workplace
  • Ability to identify rock strata conditions and their relevant supports
  • Medically fit for underground physical work
  • Successfully complete MRTA internal training as per the skills matrix for the role
***- At least 3 years of experience as a Sinker in an underground mining environment

  • Experience in shaft sinking, vertical shaft equipping and construction
  • Proven record of being able to command a team and accept legal accountability
