We are looking for an Agronomist who can develop better farming practices and find effective solutions for the food and farming industry.

The Head of Agronomy (HOA) will help the commercial team with fertilizer recommendations and help solve plant or soil nutrition problems using specialized fertilizer products, thus helping the farmers develop techniques to increase crop quality and yield.

To be a successful HOA, they should be focused on developing and promoting better farming practices. They should be self-motivated, detail-oriented and analytical with excellent listening, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Studying plants and soil to develop better planting, cultivation, and harvesting techniques, improve crop yield, and solve agriculture industry problems.
  • Developing fertilizer recommendations for farmers' requirements.
  • Researching, developing and promoting farming practices or products that diminish the effects of soil, climate, and weather changes.
  • Visiting fields to scout for nutritional deficiencies, diseases, or other changes.
  • Keeping detailed records regarding fields, customers, crops, and samples.
  • Generating reports and presenting findings to management, clients, or other interested parties.
  • Promoting products and techniques through educational presentations.
  • Handson with Marketing all product ranges. Gather marketing material and compile product/crop booklets to distribute as marketing material.
  • Manage product trials to gather information for registration and sales purposes.
  • Liaise with manufacturers regarding the import of products.
  • Extensive travel to provide support to Business Unit Managers and Agents

Qualifications:

  • Matric qualification
  • Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, or a related field.

Competencies:

  • Minimum 15 years of experience.
  • Fluent in Afrikaans and English.
  • Solid South African experience with crops
  • Must be able to identify issues /possible issues and provide solutions.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel.
  • Must currently be in a management role.
  • Must currently be involved in a product development environment.
  • Exceptional active listening and verbal and written communication skills.
