LEGAL ADVISOR

Key Purpose of the role:

  • To protect the legal interests of the Group and thereby contribute to the success of all businesses in the Group.

Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to:

  • Contracting and advising the Group on contractual matters in line with Discovery strategy.
  • Analyses and effectively negotiates contract terms that support the business objectives, while complying with applicable laws and company policies.
  • Independently review, draft, and negotiate contracts, amendments, and templates in support of the growing business ventures.
  • Resolve contractual and commercial problems.
  • Manage short and long term commercial ventures.
  • Risk management.
  • General understanding of relevant compliance related matters.
  • Consult on legal matters and handle briefing of attorneys for referred matters.
  • Keep abreast with relevant legislation and ensure that all stakeholders understand implications.
  • Working collaboratively with other areas in Discovery.
  • Provide clear, concise, and practical legal and commercial advice and counsel to business teams on a wide array of business and contractual issues while coordinating with other legal team members and stakeholders as necessary to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organisation.
  • Partner with the business to successfully drive the initiatives they are championing and to provide overall support for execution of strategy.
  • Manage the Group's Intellectual Property portfolio.
  • Conduct training sessions for internal team members on procedures and other contract or legal topics, as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Completed LLB degree
  • 5 to 7 years relevant experience
  • Experience in dealing with multiple external partners is essential.
  • Experience in Financial Services is advantageous
