The Citizen has a vacancy for a Production Supervisor to work 2 weeks night shifts and 2 weeks day shift, operating from Industria West, Roodepoort, and reporting to the Creative and Digital Director.

• Overseeing production processes in the editorial department
• The look and feel of the paper
• Liaison between production department and prepress
• Gatekeeping of publishing software and maintain mainframe of systems and archiving
• Managing all preprints and supplement deadlines
• Ensuring consistent photo reproduction standards are maintained
• Effectively managing the workflow of pages and ensuring that deadlines are met
• Quickly and effectively fixing problems if any occur
• Troubleshooting basic system problems and difficulties with prepress
• Layout of technical pages and editorial pages from time to time
• Operating as a gatekeeper/quality controller
• Proactively suggesting possible system improvements
• Newspaper/magazine production experience is essential (minimum two years' experience)
• Knowledge of prepress techniques and newspaper printing
• Intimate knowledge of the workflow/management system
• Knowledge of design techniques using InDesign/Adobe creative suite
• Excellent PC skills and technical savvy. Be a multitasker
• Meticulous attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
• Ability and willingness to learn new things
• A background in IT will be advantageous
• Matric/Grade 12 certificate or SAQAaccredited equivalent
• Excellent communication skills and a team player
• Scripting knowledge will be advantageous
• Ability to make sound and firm decisions under pressure
• Ability to train staff on new systems when required and manage people
• Own transport and a valid driver's licence essential
