Job DescriptionThe Safety Officer is a legal appointment in terms of regulation of the Minerals Act.

The Role is responsible for the development, implementation and management of safety and risk control programmes, as well as ensuring legal compliance and provision of a safety advisory and reporting service to the Operational Unit or Area.

Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Sets safety targetsDetermines the need for safety policies, procedures and standardsSelects preventative actions for incidents where appropriateSelects safety expertise when problems occurDetermines scheduling of external and internal safety auditsSelects safety campaigns and safety promotionsStops the operation or workplace if the working conditions are unsafeSelects appropriate training needsDetermines appropriate investigationsDisciplines employees to agreed parameters and procedures.

This role is at a Band 7 (D1) level reporting to the Chief Safety Officer. QualificationsGrade 12 or EquivalentBlastingExperience, Knowledge and Skills 3 Years relevant Mining Training experienceKnowledge And Skills Presentation / Facilitation/ TrainingPlanningCode B driver's licenseCOMSOC I & II or equivalentSAMTRACOSHAS 18 001Computer literate (MS Office and Projects)
