The role includes assisting with establishing and implementing policies, processes, and procedures, drafting, reviewing, and interpreting contracts and assisting with all required corporate/commercial matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement legal strategies pertaining to regulatory matters, commercial contracts, and various operational matters.
- Drafting and negotiating contracts related to all areas of the business.
- Assist with the review of the department's policies, processes, procedures, and work plans to identify and recommend improvement opportunities.
- Manage and oversee the implementation and monitoring of legal compliance requirements generally, but with specific focus on the Financial Intelligence Centre Act and the Protection of Personal Information Act.
- Review, vet and settle all commercial contracts and other proposed contractual arrangements.
- Reviewing, negotiating, and advising on all corporate, contractual, and other documentation for the group including with vendors, suppliers, lenders, and other counterparts.
- Ensure that the policies, processes, and work activities of the Legal Department effectively support and drive achievement of group's strategic goals and plans.
- Render high quality legal advice across the organization, including providing legal inputs to the formulation of the company's business decisions as well as interpreting laws, regulations, policies, and directives as they affect the company's operations.
- Work closely with leadership of key internal stakeholders such as Sales, Procurement, Finance, HR, and Operations.
- Ensure that effective dispute resolution, contract management and legal opinion management policies, processes and procedures are developed, implemented, and continuously enhanced to protect the groups brand
- Support the Head of Legal with Company Secretarial duties.
Preferred knowledge and qualifications:
- Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB)
- Admitted Attorney in the Republic of South Africa
- 35 years post admission experience
- Good knowledge of the FICA and POPIA legislation
- Stakeholder Management
- Industry and Employment Law Knowledge
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Johannesburg, Gauteng: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (required)
