The primary duty of overseeing the laboratory and IR equipment at their Plant and providing assistance to other companies' South African operations.


KPI

  • Manage and maintain IR & NIR equipment at the Plant.
  • Support other Companies' plant laboratories on calibration, monitoring, and verification of IR equipment when necessary
  • Assist Central Quality with the implementation of new analytical equipment.
  • Conduct accurate analytical tests on samples, according to working instructions.
  • Conduct metrology checks on laboratory equipment (both Chemistry & Micro)
  • Conduct training with laboratory staff on applicable procedures (both Chemistry & Micro)
  • Setting up, calibrating, maintaining, and cleaning laboratory equipment.
  • Support team with investigating discrepancies
  • Drive corrective actions on variances in Drip vs Dairy results
  • Reinforce the responsibilities of both Micro and Chemistry Senior Analysts
  • Conduct WLQMS Internal Audits and Food Safety Plant Internal Audits
  • Record sample information and test results accurately.
  • Analyse results to ensure consistency to specifications and ensure all retests are done timeously.
  • Work according to and promote Good Laboratory Practices, Food Safety, Continuous Improvement, and NOSA standards.
  • Assist Lab manager with optimization of staff to ensure cover for all operations
  • Manage lab consumable stock levels to ensure sufficient availability and opportunities for costsaving.
  • Drive corrective actions for all lab nonconformances
  • Act as Lab Manager in his/her absence.

Qualification and Experience

  • NQF 7 (Degree/Btech) Food Sciences/ Food technology/ Analytical Chemistry ,Microbiology or equivalent.
  • At least 5 7 years experience in a chemical and or micro laboratory environment.
  • Computer literate spreadsheets and word processing
  • Flexibility to work shifts, overtime, weekends, and public holidays
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (including ethical and disciplined behavior, safety, etc.)
  • Sound knowledge of standard microbiological and analytical test procedures.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Able to carry out tasks accurately within reasonable time constraints.
  • Be able to think and operate independently and make decisions.
  • Able to supervise one or more individuals.
  • Must have abilities to stand in for the Lab Manager when required.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Willing to learn.
  • Be assertive
  • Disciplinary inquiries.
  • Willing to perform Ad hoc tasks.
