INTRODUCTION:

A vacancy has become available for an experienced Commercial Underwriter in our Renewals Teams.

JOB PURPOSE:


The responsibility of a Renewal Underwriter is to manage the renewal process of an assigned portfolio within a specific time frame and meet all deadlines.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage, oversee, and control the allocated portfolio from a renewal underwriting perspective.
  • Management of the portfolio loss ratio.
  • Responsible for renewing policies within a set service level agreement or mandate.
  • To renew and bind in specific given timeframes and to forward for necessary reinsurance where applicable.
  • To involve the relevant divisional head/regional manager/underwriting managers when and where applicable in terms of renewals.
  • Responsible for multiple claimants and to implement action form renewal.
  • To bind risks based on a given mandates and within product risk categorization.
  • To be fully competent and confident in using the system for all underwriting processes
  • Working together with the regions, providing feedback, needs and recommendations.
  • Appointing of Surveyors with knowledge and understanding of the report.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 1
  • Minimum 23 years insurance experience
  • Relevant Insurance qualifications, minimum 120 NQF credit on NQF level
  • Must be risk conscious.
  • Professional, wellspoken and good attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of Risk classification and geographical risk factors
  • Ability to adapt to change and to work under pressure and meet short deadlines.
  • Ability to work with various individuals with different knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Must be analytical and must cope with large work volumes and interruptions must be technologically driven and comfortable with different operation packages, including excel and word.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Must be organized, demonstrate good time management skills and be able to prioritize accordingly.
  • Eager to earn, assertive, positive, and focused.
  • Being able to work independently.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must have a basic knowledge of the ShortTerm Insurance Industry.
  • Basic knowledge of the different products and Classes of Business.
