Mission

  • To understand and partner with business unit to identify, prioritise, and solve problems in order to improve and build data capability maturity, and business value.
  • To coordinate special projects between business units and data analytics team.
  • To facilitate business intelligence processes and procedures development and implementation.
  • Provide input into business unit plans to monetize data assets at MTN SAs disposal.

Key Responsibilities

Data Strategy

  • Provide business unit (BU)specific input into the strategic data roadmap for business and BICC and communicate this to relevant parties, as appropriate. Ensure alignment of BUs (from a data capability and architecture perspective) with MTN SA strategy and Group BICC & Technology strategy
  • Align all operational activities undertaken in the department to strategic objectives
  • Stay abreast of local and global technological trends and developments (as it relates data architecture, capabilities and integrity) in order to introduce industry leading practices and technologies to MTN SA and align the specific technologies identified with the relevant business capabilities they support
  • Facilitate use case ideation process with business units and explore the art of the possible. Effective feedback into the BICC, so learnings from use cases can be incorporated into the design/development process in an agile way

Business Requirements and Partnering

  • Engage with business units to understand their data analytics and reporting requirements
  • Share Best practice across BICC team and other business functions
  • Keep up to date with data regulations and share new data needs that may impact data governance
  • In partnership with BUs, identify complex problems and review related information to develop solutions
  • Perform highlevel analysis to determine feasibility, the cost / benefit of a request and produce required documentation
  • Create a business plan for the requirement and define the quality measures
  • Document existing processes and verify the integrity of the data being utilised
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager to analyse, validate, specify, verify, and manage the requirements of the BI project team and the end user
  • Work independently with stakeholders from other business units within MTN to consolidate requirements and report back on progress

Reporting

  • Identify BI requirements errors, defects and write requirements defect identification and notification reports
  • Prepare technical reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising information and trends
  • Develop and submit reports for the Senior Manager addressing periodic activity, budget compliance, feedback and key departmental results to facilitate decision making

Operational Delivery

  • Document and communicate improvements and enhancements in the BI capability and architecture
  • Manage the Extract Transform and Load (ETL) design for MTN SA
  • Interview end users to determine requirements for data, reports, analyses, metadata, training, service levels, data quality, and performance
  • Collaborate with architects to translate requirements into technical specifications
  • Extend the companies enterprise data repository to include sources not previously recorded. Evaluate and recommend improvements in the movement of data throughout the Firm
  • Define integrative views of data that simplify meeting quality of service requirements such as data currency, accuracy, availability, and response times
  • Follow the relevant internal processes for project/incident lodgment and tracking up until project closure or incident resolution
  • Validate BI requirements and service level agreements by crossreferencing them with other stakeholders
  • Coordinate prototype reviews in order to facilitate solution verification, error identification and gathering early prototype feedback
  • Define quality attributes, external interfaces, constraints and other nonfunctional requirements
  • Support and maintain the requirements repository and provide reporting relating to quality or requirements, traceability and reusability

Escalations

  • Escalate complex issues that have impact on critical path of service delivery to the Senior Manager
  • Escalate issues that will result in significant time, scope, employee / customer or cost impacts if not resolved
  • Contribute towards generating solutions to issues that require formal resolution

People & Culture Management

  • Provide technical, procedural and policy guidance to staff, colleagues, partners and vendors
  • Attract, develop and retain appropriate talent. Build talent by identifying and developing new leaders for the respective environment
  • Create and implement personal development plans
  • Define the divisional KPAs and KPIs that will be cascaded down to each area
