We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join our dynamic team.
This role is based in South Africa (Investec Ltd.), and the main Investec office is the 100 Grayston.
The Data Engineer will design, develop, and maintain our data systems and infrastructure.

This role requires strong technical skills, a deep knowledge of data engineering principles, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams.

The Data Engineer will help ensure the quality, performance, and scalability of our data platforms and pipelines.

This person will be required to:

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into data warehouses or data lakes.
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines and data integration solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and software engineers, to understand data requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Stakeholder engagement and understanding business requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Implement best practices for data engineering, including data modeling, data storage, and data transformation.
  • Optimize data storage and pipelines processes to ensure efficient and scalable data operations.
  • Perform data cleansing, validation, and quality checks to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines and systems to identify and ensure data quality & uptime.
  • Implement data security and privacy measures to protect sensitive and confidential data.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends in data engineering and recommend innovative solutions to improve data infrastructure and processes.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior data engineers.
Experience, skill and capability

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data engineering or a related role.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, C#, or Java.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and data science concepts.
  • Experience with big data technologies.
  • Experience with real-time data streaming and processing.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Oracle database management systems.
  • Experience with data modeling and ETL processes, such as Informatica, SSIS, ADF
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
