This position reports to the general manager and collaborates with the housekeeping manager

Vacancy Description:
Key responsible areas

Tasks

Criteria

Manage the medical station activities

Develop a workable system and schedule medical care activities

Develop and supervise control sheets

Order medication and manage the arrangement with packing of medication including emergency medication

Keep emergency equipment in order

Attend operational meeting as scheduled, write reports and

Keep accurate records

Supervise medical/care staff

Schedule duties and plan care activities

Plan transport for care, public and private

Train and supervise the activities of the care workers

Train care workers in emergency care e. g. epilepsy

Assist with performance reviews

Oversee the proper care of the residents

Do initial and continuous assessments of the physical and mental well-being of residents and keep an accessible weekly record of their vital signs, weight and ailments reported

Develop personalised care plans for individual residents

Set standards for hygiene including the care for wheelchairs, hearing aids, and other supportive equipment

Manage the visits of the residents for appointments for public and private medical care, dental care, physiotherapy and other interventions

Oversee the prescribed treatment by the medical team including catheter care, injections and wound care.

Management of general ailments like flu, high blood pressure, diabetes, diarrhoea and vomiting

Manage emergencies e g dehydration, epileptic fits and asthmatic attacks or any risks to the conditions of any of the residents

Manage safety aspects concerning the disabled

Liaise with hospitals and family members on care of the residents

Liaise with operational managers on day to day activities

Liaise medical matters to the guardians/parents or families

Advise the parents and general manager of problems and report all serious incidents

Financial management

Work cost effective without compromising quality and safety

Professional conduct

Adhere to the scope of practice and code of ethics

Keep abreast of best practices

_MUST BE ABLE TO CONVERSE FLUENTLY IN AFRIKAANS_

Qualification

  • Qualifications : Registered with the SANC as a professional nurse (
    _General and psychiatry_)
  • Nursing management will be an advantage
  • Dispencing licence is a recommendation
  • Experience: 10 year's experience in nursing care and supervision of staff
  • Hands on experience with psychiatric patients is required
  • Driver' license Code B and own reliable transport to and from place of employment
  • Good interpersonal relations in a multicultural environment
  • Police clearance certificate
  • Physically fit, nonsmoker in excellent health

Employment Contract:
Full time appointment - Monday to Friday 07:30 - 17:00 with one weekend duty per 4 week period

Job Location :
Tshwane district (behind Steve Biko Hospital)

Renumeration:
NPO salary package negotiable as per qualification and experience. No accommodation is available

Salary:
R15, R18,000.00 per month
