LECTURER

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teaching and curriculum development at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Archaeology;
• Conducting and hosting research in the UP-Archaeology Ceramics Laboratory and attached analytical lab facility;
• Supervision of postgraduate students;
• Research at an internationally competitive level;
• Academic administration and other duties as determined by the Head of Department;
• Participation in the Department's strategic initiatives relating to teaching, research, community engagement and fundraising.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• A doctoral degree in Archaeology;
• Publications in accredited journals or equivalent recognised outputs appropriate to the post level;
• Evidence of teaching and learning experience at tertiary level;
• Competency in archaeological analytical methods and laboratorybased skills.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

• Appropriate language and communication skills;
• Appropriate experience in conducting independent research;
• Appropriate professional experience;
• Appropriate computer skills.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

The following will be a strong recommendation:

• Evidence of successful postgraduate student supervision;
• Specialised knowledge of the southern African Iron Age;
• Appropriate skill in Materials Analysis in Archaeology;
• Archaeology fieldwork experience;
• Involved in existing archaeological research projects;
• Ability to raise third stream income.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.

UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and Umvuzo medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
