Job Advert Summary:

The purpose of this role is to drive innovation and enable the Information Systems Audit Business
Unit (ISA BU) to be on the cutting edge of information technology (IT) audit developments and
emerging technology trends. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for research and
development, provide innovative ideas and solutions that will enable the business unit to stay
abreast of the new developments and trends in the IT field, national and internationally, in order to
leverage these for the benefit of organisation. The role will enhance integration within Specialised
Audit Services (SAS) and with the regularity audit (RA), collaborate with other internal BUs in order
to enhance the ISA products and offerings, new ways of working and value propositions.

Minimum Requirements:

Formal Education

This position requires a Post graduate qualification in Auditing/ Information technology or Computer Sciences or other relevant field Registration with a professional body (mandatory)

Experience In addition, the incumbent requires at least 12 years work experience of which 5 years must be at a senior level experience in implementing emerging technologies within business

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Function

  • Provide strategic inputs to the strategy of the business unit (BU) and support the implementation thereof.
  • Develop research and innovation plans and ensure alignment with BU Balance Score Card (BSC).
  • Provide insights on strategic government initiatives and the impact of these on Information Systems Audit.
  • Responsible for implementation and reporting on R&D and innovation projects for the BU.
Product Management

Innovation, Research and Development:
Influence the strategic direction of the ISA IT function/team and support its effective implementation across the BU and the portfolio through innovation and researching best practice:

  • Define the scope of innovation and research projects for the BU including the implementation of key projects on time and within budget.
  • Conduct research, review and analysis of best practice in line with ISA strategy.
  • Incorporate research insights and findings into the development of the ISA products and ensure alignment within the SAS portfolio and Audit portfolio.
  • Develop and implement innovation and R&D framework and techniques to guide the ISA team on rollout of relevant projects.
  • Oversee the innovation and research projects for the BU, analyse results and provide recommendations based on the findings.
  • Integrate innovative solutions and efforts at a project/business unit/ portfolio level.
  • Use a range of models to design products that best suit the company environment.
  • Create strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders to enhance product development, new knowledge in the BU through innovation and R&D.
  • Drive innovative and latest research methodologies and practices in the BU.
  • Lead the research and analysis of market trends and best practice to ensure that the ISA strategies and approaches are current, risks are identified and governance frameworks are effective.
  • Conduct continuous and regular environmental scanning to enhance ISA products and company value propositions.
  • Creation or improvement of products, processes or knowledge such as robotics, Artificial intelligence and Audit Processes in order to drive audit efficiencies and reduce overall audit risk through emerging technology
  • Identify areas of risk with a view to take remedial steps and formulate appropriate control.

Reporting:

  • Compile comprehensive reports after each project including recommended actions/strategies/approaches.
  • Provide requisite input into the BU/portfolio quarterly reports and the integrated annual report.
  • Coordinate the compilation of various adhoc reports relating to Research and Development centre which will be required from time to time within the business unit and the portfolio.

Risk Management:

  • Conduct continuous and regular environmental scanning to identify new developments, trends and risks which may impact the successful implementation of R & D products at company.
  • Proactively identify and manage any risks relating to the Research and Development products
  • Continuously monitor and ensure that relevant mitigating factors are put in place to manage potential impact of risks emanating from the Research and Development products
Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships/partnerships with the relevant stakeholders and or research institutions (i.e. private sector firms, INTOSAI partners and public sector bodies, the Presidency, CSIR/Innovation hub etc.) that enhance performance audit value propositions.
Financial management and operational management

  • Contribute to compiling the BU budget.
  • Manage resources effectively and efficiently to comply with budget requirements.
