Crewing Officer

The Sea Harvest Group is a leading seafood, aquaculture, agri-processing and branded fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) business with a global footprint.

The Sea Harvest fleet consists of 34 factory freezer and wet fish trawlers, which operate out of Cape Town, Saldanha Bay on the Cape west coast, Durban and Mossel Bay on the southern coast of South Africa.

• To assist the Crew Services Manager by providing an effective and functional crewing service to seagoing employees.
• To ensure that the manning of vessels complies with all relevant company polices and maritime regulations, thereby resulting in an efficient operational crewing service within the Fleet Department.

• Coordinate the logistics of allocating seagoing staff on vessels and ensure that all crew and officers are on board at the scheduled sailing times.
• Provide detailed and accurate reports on staff movements and assess whether staff have been utilized in accordance with the sailing plan.
• Communicate sailing times and changes thereof to all officers and crew.
• Maintain and update the medical grid and all other records pertaining to the crew and officers.
• Conduct routine checks before sailing on all maritime documentation before the vessel in handed over to the Skipper's responsibility.
• Responsible for the ordering and issuing of stores and protective clothing (PPE) to crew and officers.
• Ensure that the crew lists of the respective vessel are submitted to the payroll department timeously for the processing of wage sheets.
• Attend to seagoing staff queries and escalate issues to relevant department when necessary.
• Arrange transportation with contracted service providers and the transport department for staff when there are dockings and sailings of vessels.
• Promote and carry out a dynamic and effective functioning crewing service.

• Minimum grade 12, preferably with a National Diploma in Management Assistance or Office Administration.
• 35 years' work experience in a clerical/admin assistant capacity within an operations or logistics work environment.

• Ability to maintain good interpersonal skills and to work in a team.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Physical ability to work on board vessels.
• Ability to function independently in decision making and problem solving.
• Ability to uphold and adhere to maritime regulations and company policies and procedures.
• Must be prepared to work outside normal working hours as and when required.
• Ability to work in a highpressure environment.
