Au pair for two neurodivergent siblings - Tamboerskloof, Cape Town.


We're in search of an au pair who is outgoing, bubbly, and has a low arousal temperament—a person who handles situations calmly without getting caught up in the small stuff, while still being responsible and highly organised.

Being open-minded and non-judgmental is important, along with having plenty of energy to keep up with two siblings, boy aged 9 and girl aged 7.


Main Purpose of the job:


To be a "helping hand" for their unique and specific support needs, giving them the necessary guidance and support to thrive.

A special interest and passion in neurodiversity and to be a secure, long-term source of support is of the utmost importance.


Job Objectives:

  • Becoming a core member of the multidisciplinary team handling any support and intervention needed around both children.
  • To collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support their individual needs if and when needed.
  • Providing companionship and emotional support for them at home.
  • Support and scaffolding for their regulation needs (lessening any uncertainty and anxiety).
  • To carry out duties such as school pickups and drop offs, outings and appointments, preparing lunch/dinner and school lunches.
  • Light housework (wiping down table after eating, loading and unloading dishwasher, helping pack away activities/toys).
  • Supporting the understanding of their individual difference sensory profiles, and executive functioning (executive function examples eg. independence, self
- organisation).

  • Occasional babysitting.

General Requirements:
A valid driver's license and reliable car - Essential.

Fluent in English & Afrikaans - Essential.

Being fun and relaxed to create a comfortable environment for the children - Essential.

Job Related work experience:
Minimum 2 years' experience in a role supporting neurodivergent children - Essential.

Job Related Knowledge:
Knowledge and understanding of the unique support needs of a neurodivergent individual - Essential.

Familiarity with a low arousal, child led, neuro-affirming approach - Essential.

Job Related Skills:


Able to assist with homework, school projects using creative and flexible approaches to teaching and learning according to each child's learning profile.

Ability to minimise stress and anxiety for both children by utilising a low arousal approach - Essential.

Strong verbal communication skills with children and parents - Essential.

Organisational skills, i.e., ability to implement structure, strong time management imperative - Essential.

Social, play and life skills - Essential.

Relationship building skills - Essential.

Working hours:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday: 07:00-08:00 (school run), 14:30 - 19:00.

Thursdays: 14:30 - 21:30.
