Mechanical Draughtsman - Johannesburg East

The main goal of this position is to handle the development of mechanical and integral piping, detailed design, and continuous improvement of company products. Additionally, providing technical support across various departments using computer-aided design tools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting site visits and maintaining customer service standards.
  • Collaborating with sub-suppliers to meet quality standards and design requirements.
  • Ensuring all designs comply with specifications.
  • Selecting mechanical parts considering obsolescence, availability, and cost factors.
  • Creating 2D drawings for manufacturing purposes.
  • Developing assembly drawings and bills of materials.
  • Addressing design change requests promptly.
  • Providing progress updates on assigned tasks to engineering and project management teams.
  • Working closely with operations and production engineers to optimize product manufacturability.
  • Taking the lead on specific projects and aligning with the engineering manager on technical approaches.
  • Mentoring junior staff on design techniques.
  • Identifying and communicating mechanical and technical risks to the engineering manager.
  • Meeting design deadlines and timelines effectively.
Requirements:
  • Technical Certificate N4 or equivalent (enrollment in further studies preferred).
  • Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS is a must.
  • Completion of certified SOLIDWORKS and advanced modeling courses is mandatory.
  • Essential skills in Microsoft Office - Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical design and fabrication detailing.
  • Specific expertise in designing mechanical parts, assemblies, plate work, and fabrication.
  • Understanding of 2D and 3D modeling principles, from layout generation to assembly modeling and detailing.
