RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be expected to:

  • Engage in teaching, curriculum development, and co-ordination of programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Supervise postgraduate research commensurate with the post level;
  • Supervise practical work in the MA (Clinical Psychology) programme, commensurate with the post level;
  • Conduct research commensurate with the level of appointment and actively contribute to the Department's research profile;
  • Perform various academic and administrative duties as determined by the Head of Department;
  • Participate in the Department's strategic initiatives relating to teaching, research and community engagement;
  • Contribute to transdisciplinary engagements in teaching and research.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (LECTURER)

  • A Master's degree in Clinical Psychology;
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Psychologist;
  • Evidence of research productivity (e.g., conference presentations; publications in peerreviewed journals or equivalent; significant progress in PhD studies).

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Professional practice experience as a Clinical Psychologist;
  • Ability to train student psychologists;
  • Ability to lecture in at least two, but preferably more, of the following areas on undergraduate level: introductory psychology, biological psychology, cognitive psychology, psychological assessment, social psychology, developmental psychology, psychopathology, community psychology, critical psychology;
  • Demonstrated research focus, preferably aligned with departmental thematic areas.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Registration with the HPCSA as a Clinical Psychologist for three years or more;
  • Experience in lecturing at the undergraduate level;
  • Experience in lecturing or professional training at the postgraduate (MA) level;
  • Ability to lecture and supervise student psychologists in psychological assessment and psychometric testing;
  • Ability to lecture student psychologists on psychodynamic and/or narrative psychotherapy;
  • A doctoral degree.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium
