Job Summary


CIB Financial Resource Management (FRM) business unit is looking for a quantitative analyst, who will support financial resource (capital, funding and liquidity) management.


The main focus is to:

  • Support optimal and efficient allocation and usage of scarce financial resources across the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) which includes South Africa and other presence countries.
  • Support the facilitation of the optimisation of valuealigned performance measures (risk adjusted return measures e.g. Return on Risk Weighted Assets, Return on Economic Capital) based on the plans for the clusters.
  • Support advisory services e.g. business change implications to CIB
  • Business, Risk and Finance.
Analyse the impact of upcoming regulation that has the potential to impact the availability of financial resources within CIB.

Job Description:

Key accountabilities

  • Financial Resource Management
  • Obtain and monitor the riskadjusted performance metrics and financial resource usage for each relevant business unit area within CIB
  • Build out dashboards to ensure that the preparation of Management Information (MI) relating to financial constraints are automated to improve efficiencies
  • Run analytics using available tools such as, but not limited to, Python and/or PowerBI to enhance reporting and preparation of MI
  • Source data and perform analysis to support business on the efficiency of the funding profile.
  • Support financial resource optimisation initiatives and provide support for capital allocation requests in plans according to these initiatives.
  • Provide decision support that is business enabling and solution orientated.
  • Assist in providing challenge to Front Office on the opportunities and threats to maximise the returns on financial resources.
  • Provide input into various cluster level committee meetings, including the sourcing and preparation of Management Information for effective decision making.
  • Assist in ensuring the above objective is achieved within the approved regulatory and management constraints, with a particular focus on capital, funding and leverage.
  • Provide support toward ensuring adherence to financial resource policies and limits.
  • Provide support on the appropriate action plans to close gaps identified as part of the existing finance and strategic planning process.
  • Research
  • Conduct general research into the financial sector by sourcing information from various sources, including regulators, analyst research and public disclosures, in order to help CIB understand the factors that influence banking performance and the utilisation of financial resources.
  • Continuously evaluate the external environment, including upcoming regulatory changes (prudential, conduct and market infrastructure), and provide support to assist in the assessment of impact on the area's activities and availability of financial resources.
  • Produce research with and/or without supervision.
  • Provide support toward regulatory change impact and strategy on financial resource management.
Stakeholder management

  • Establish and manage relationships with both internal and external sources of information in order to deliver on objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal roleplayers e.g. Risk, Front Office, Finance and Treasury.
Knowledge and skills

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum qualification
  • Quantitative or finance and accounting degrees eg Applied Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Econometrics.
