Children's Medical Step-Down Facility/Hospice:


Registered Nurse with Paediatric experience sought to join our unit to be part of an incredible holistic team who are passionate about children's health and well being.

Applicants will require a high level of clinical expertise in order to care for these patients.

We are a patient and family centred medical step-down facility for children and adolescents, who have been referred from hospitals and other facilities. We admit patients to our facility for further medical, palliative, rehabilitative and psychosocial care.
Lambano Sanctuary an NGO was established in 2001. In 2009 we established a Children's Medical Step-Down Facility/Hospice. The facility admits children from birth to 18 years in our 16-bed inpatient unit.

Will be required to work 12-hour shifts.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proof of current registration with SANC
  • Relevant Nursing qualification (BCur / Diploma)
  • Previous experience in a subacute facility will be advantageous
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a Registered nurse
  • Have a strong work ethic
  • Must be a South African Citizen
  • Palliative Care is an advantage however if not must be willing to further studies in
Palliative Care

SKILLS:

Good communication and interpersonal skills are required with the ability to work under pressure. Function as part of a team and independently. Required to be able to think on your feet and show initiative. Be assertive when needed.

Responsibilities:

Patient

  • Manage all patient care
  • Deal with all patient emergencies, liaise with doctors, hospitals and laboratory
  • Ensure patient is admitted to hospital if necessary
  • Assess and Monitor patient condition, medical situation and vital signs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate reporting and record keeping
  • Manage treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
  • Consult and coordinate with multidisciplinary team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
  • Implement infection control programs as needed. Advising and taking necessary precautions. Recommend drugs, medical devices, or other forms of treatment, such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
  • Prepare patients for and assist with examinations or treatments.
  • Assist with discharge planning program and training of Caregiver if needed.
  • Ensure that special dietary requirements are met.
  • Handle patient complaints correctly by addressing them as soon as possible.

Medication:

  • Ensure that prescribed medication is administered timeously and correctly within the guidelines of the Nursing Scope of Practice (no2598) and pharmaceutical regulations.
  • Ensure that the patient's medication is always available in liaison with doctors and pharmacists.
  • Keep medicine charts up to date and complete the Drug book accordingly.

Experience:

- nursing: 2 years (required)

License/Certification:

  • Nursing Council registration (required)
