Introduction:

We are looking for someone that is technically minded, organised and who has a high attention to detail. Someone who is keen to be involved and grow within our organisation within the Stores and Maintenance division. This is an excellent opportunity with an established and growing manufacturing company building its international expansion.

Overall responsibility:

Plan and oversee the Stores Department and assist in any maintenance requirements and procurement.

Duties include:

  • Stock Control_
  • Daily Coordinate and supervise receiving and storing procedures.
  • Plan and oversee the conduct of physical stock items and property and reconciles with records.
  • Control stock levels and ensure availability of material during emergencies.
  • Investigate stock shortages.
  • Supervise staff engaged in the receipt, storage, inventory and issuance of supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Minimise stock losses and stock obsolescence; reduce excess stock.
  • Planning and Management_
  • Plan the store's layout and assign work according to volume, assignment, and individual skills and abilities.
  • Oversee the maintenance within the stores department and report if there are any issues.
  • Review reports of missing physical property and prepare appropriate paperwork to document the reduction of the company inventory and investigate accordingly.
  • Set priorities, resolve problems, and make decisions within general policy guidelines while meeting critical deadlines.
  • Collaborate with other managers to determine supply needs.
  • Oversee distribution of supplies within the company.
  • Plan, coordinate, assign, and review the work of subordinate staff.
  • Prepare your department budgeting and scheduling expenditures.
  • Ensure that inventory level is financially feasible and viable for both inhouse customers and the company.
  • Compile monthly reports, reviews and interpret data in order to identify deviations and corrective actions.
  • Procurement_
  • Have a good relationship with suppliers and manage expectations where risks could impact on the operations.
  • Monitor usage rate of supplies to identify opportunities to control expenditures.
  • Communicate with internal customers regarding requirements and demand.
  • Have good negotiation skills to resolve problems regarding received items that are damaged or incomplete and to obtain delivery information on supplies and equipment ordered.
  • Assist with technical procurement.
  • Compliance and Control_
  • Ensure nothing leaves company without an official document, control over company property.
  • Collaborate with other managers, auditors and directors to manage and reduce the risk of fraud and errors.
  • Implement good housekeeping practices within the warehouse.
  • Where applicable, develop new procedures to improve warehouse efficiencies and reduce costs.
  • Improve stock and operational risk management processes and procedures.
  • Continuous enforcement of accountability and streamlining of control processes.
  • Implement processes to minimize obsolete stock.
  • Leadership and Training_
  • Assist in defining departmental objectives and setting priorities for resources utilization.
  • Develop effective policies and procedures for storekeeping operations.
  • Training and mentoring of staff in processoriented thinking, control and stores procedures, stock takes and housekeeping standards.

Key skills & experience:

  • Matric and a tertiary qualification.
  • Previous training and / or experience in Supply Chain.
  • Sound understanding of all financial aspects with regards to managing a warehouse and distribution operation.
  • Previous experience in an industrial industry.
  • Sound knowledge in computers.
  • Intermediate MS Excel Skills.
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years' experience in a similar position.
  • Good technical understanding (pumps, motors etc).

  • Forklift License.
