Primary Duties

  • Forecasting the requirements of the production in order to achieve the production target on a daily basis.
  • Making the most efficient utilization of the available resources (human, machinery and tooling) for production.
  • Minimizing throughput time and work in process inventory. This is achieved by systematic production planning and also by efficient execution thereof.
  • Devise accurate methodology involving method study of manufacturing and inserting it into job routing cards and repeatable processes, thus ensuring that every time the same job is repeated, that it runs effectively and efficiently.
  • Successfully monitoring and evaluating work progress at all times as well as identifying efficiency problem areas on a daily basis and communicating with relevant personnel regarding potential causes and solutions opening action requests on EstiTrack where required.
  • Continuously update standard production timings and ensure that all technological advances are recorded accurately. This will help for future planning forecasts and efficiency expectations, enabling production to achieve their target through effective planning and machining efficiency.
  • You are an important member of the production team and are expected to assist your colleagues in the achievement of the overriding objectives in terms of the monitoring and control of production at Company. A key factor of production is conforming to ISO 9001:2008 standards.
  • Work closely with the Quality Controller in implementing processes and procedures to achieve company quality objectives and effect and professionally deal with product nonconformances.
  • As a CNC programmer for the Advanced Manufacturing Division (AMD), make sure that a program is generated, checked and ready before the current job is complete.
  • Issue the setter with a tooling sheet and setup requirements so that he/she will be able to be ready to start the setup as soon as the job is complete and the machine has been cleaned if necessary.

Secondary Duties

  • Enforce the use of the correct PPE at all times.
  • Make sure that all personnel have been trained on the basic preventative maintenance for their respective machines (e.g. lubrication, clearing shavings) enforcing this practice and make sure it has been done either on daily or weekly basis (Friday) as required.
  • Ensure all personnel understand the risks associate with their specific and general surrounding work environment (Risk Assessments).
  • Ensure that good housekeeping is practiced within the factory. A good, clean work environment is essential for safety.
  • Be able to handle conflict in the factory.
  • Be familiar with and initiate disciplinary procedure when needed.
  • Assist the conventional department on setups they may require.
  • May be required to operate production machinery where the need arises.
  • Set up new jobs on advance CNC equipment and train operators to safely and efficiency execute your requirements.
  • Commission new production equipment.
  • Work closely with Production Facilitator, ensuring that the work is delegated to the correct work station.
  • Inform all operator/machinists well in advance, what their next job is. This will reduce unnecessary downtime and improve their effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Make decisions regarding issues that may arise within the work environment in order to solve and overcome them as effectively as possible consulting with Division Engineer or General Manager if necessary.
  • Building team spirit among the workmen and also motivating good moral through personal involvement.
  • Keep record of all personnel competency levels and identify training requirements.
  • Assist in training material, knowledge, evaluation of effectiveness of training.
  • Compile cost summaries of new components and implement BOM and routings into MRP system.

Performance

Will be measured in terms of:

  • Ability to carry out all of the primary duties and secondary duties.
  • The success of the production team as a unit in terms of reaching its stated objectives.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Matric or NQF equivalent
  • Qualified fitter and Turner
  • 10 years factory management experience
  • Conversant with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993, GCC preferable
  • Strong computer literacy skills
  • Able to program CNC equipment. CAM package (Esprit and or Mastercam) preferable
  • Material Requirement Planning (MRP) systems (Visual Estitrack) experience
  • ISO 9001 implementation and reporting experience
