Senior Strawberry Grower

Our client, a prominent and forward-thinking soft fruit farm located in George, is in search of a dedicated and enthusiastic Strawberry Grower to join their team at the George office.
About the Job:
- Field Establishment: Spearhead the development of a 10ha soil strawberry project according to strict planting timelines for the initial year, with plans for rapid expansion.
- Irrigation: Implement precision irrigation techniques utilizing loggers and demonstrating a keen understanding of plant requirements. Maintaining a high urgency index is key.
- Nutrition: Apply fertilizers accurately throughout the growth stages. Conduct regular sampling and monitor nutrient trends to ensure optimal plant productivity.
- Pest & Disease Management: Supervise scouts and an Integrated Pest Management system. Apply timely preventive biological and chemical sprays to minimize yield losses.
- Farm Maintenance: Ensure the farm remains orderly, with weeds controlled, and proper management of roads and drainage systems.
- Finance: Develop and oversee your budget, with a focus on surpassing the set targets.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Btech or Bachelor's degree in horticulture or plant science.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in vegetable or strawberry cultivation.
- At least 5 years in a senior management role within the agricultural industry.
- Hands-on experience in soil irrigation is essential.
- Understanding of plant physiology, entomology, and pathology is advantageous.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated with a positive outlook.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on precision and efficiency.
- Results-driven and able to work effectively under pressure.
